As you're doing, I'd encourage you to try and get out there and do what you can, unlikely it'll do you harm, but I'd say pretty likely it'll help you out.

Everyone will tell you to remain positive and don't have negative thoughts. I do genuinely think it goes a long way to helping.....but don't feel bad about yourself if you get the odd bad/miserable day. On the whole I tried staying positive but trust me, and I think it comes across clearly in a few of my posts relatively early on in my "thread"....somewhere around 10-15 days after surgery....that I was a bit down in the dumps. You'll get those days and don't worry when you do, it's all part of the process of coming to terms with it.

Just make sure it's not every day, and keep trying to push yourself out of that front door when you can.

I hope you get a good nights sleep, and be sure to keep us updated on any progress tomorrow...and we certainly want to hear about Monday when it comes!

Best wishes

We're going to do some shopping tomorrow so I'll be getting exposed to noise then. Having to take my car as my gf's car is too noisy and crashy. Still regretting having this operation.

I think yesterday was my best day since the operation from a mood point of view. Today I'm a bit down as my left ear has stopped clicking and squelching like yesterday. Hopefully it'll start doing it again later. I have changed my habits a bit, I used to spend all day laying down, but now I am spending the day sat up to try and promote the tube opening. I am telling myself that I will get better.

I am even considering doing some work on the car next week!

I didnt sleep too badly last night when I eventually went to bed. I go to bed at around 2:30am to 3am at the moment, I need to be really tired to sleep.

Cheers mate, I know you're in a good place right now and you quite rightly deserve to be! smile

I've no idea on general recovery times for things like this but don't get disheartened if things don't improve day on day. You may get the odd bad day. Unfortunately it's a case of just putting up with it and seeing how it goes in general.

I'm pleased you're going to go out tomorrow, will do the mind a lot of good I'm sure. And don't worry or get frustrated if you find it a real struggle, either.

If you're having trouble sleeping you may see if your Dr would consider short term sleeping tablets if needed, something like zopiclone may help.

Me.... Yes I'm in a good place considering where I was, doesn't stop me wishing I never had the bd in my head though and going back to how I was 2-3 years ago! I can get by now though.

Enjoy your weekend.

Not good news today

Saw the specialist. He has no idea why I am having these issues. he can't see anything wrong with my ears, my hearing is fine.

He doesn't know why I get a pressure build up in my right ear.

So moving forward;

He believes I have hyperaccusis which is a sensitivity to sound. He is referring me to a specialist to help manage how I react psychologically as he saw how I reacted to a closing door and he was taken aback.

He is sending me for a ct scan

He is writing to my gp about how depressed this is making me. If I have to live with this then I simply do not want to live.

I have Never felt so miserable in my life and right now I feel totally destroyed and that my life really is ruined. I give up.

Don't you dare give up.

Ok, the news isn't great but just give it some time. Let's see how your body adapts with a bit of time.

Have you noticed any changes over the last week or so?

I don't want my body to adapt, I want to go back to how I was. Neither me or the specialist can understand why my right ear is doing what it is doing when he didn't go anywhere near it.

Part of me is considering having the surgery I had on my left ear done on My right one just to level the playing field.

I was hoping for good news. I'm absolutely devastated at the moment and really struggling.

My ear sometimes feels better and then goes back to how it was. I don't normally get this upset about such things but this has really got me As it is stopping me now from enjoying my life. I had things planned and at the moment I cannot see me doing any of them.

Wait for my referral and ct scan then go from there.

The ct scan is for my left ear as that isnt doing what he thinks it should be

Well hopefully the wait won't be long, they find out what's what and get you sorted! Keep us updated on any changes or progress! Keep your chin up fella....they're looking into it for you!

The way to get me sorted would be to suck out the bioplastique from my eustachian tube but that hasn't been discussed so I'm pretty sure it isn't an option.

I know they're looking into it, it's just hard to live with. I am so angry with myself for having the operation. I had so many doubts about it, even on the day, but i went through with it anyway as I never imagined that it would be this bad.

Sorry to hear what you are going through OP.

Does stress make your symptoms worse, if so have you considered relaxation techniques, deep abdominal breathing etc?

Cheers!

I am anxious a lot at the moment, but I do not believe that it is adding to it.

I am trying to be noisy at the moment to see if I can get "used" to it.

I have decided to give it while next Wednesday which will be 3 weeks after the operation and then speaking to the ENT Specialist again to see about reversing the procedure. I cannot see why this wouldn't be possible based on the fact that Bioplastique is not naturally produced by Humans, so should be able to be differentiated on a scan, so should be able to be sucked out with a syringe, as it was originally put in with a syringe.

I'm having a bad day with this today. It had been manageable over the last few days but today has started quite bad and is getting worse.

I've been reading up about bioplastique and it looks like it can be removed using a small needle. Hopefully the ENT will agree.

I have an appointment to see a Hearing Therapist on June 2nd. I am starting to doubt the Hyperacusis diagnosis, events over the last few days do not appear to support it.

Best of luck with this. 2nd of June isn't that far away, in the grand scheme of things, so I'm glad it's come up reasonably quickly.

Keep us posted!

I have had to change the appointment as I am planning On going back to work on the 2nd. I'll be seeing the therapist on the 9th instead

I asked the specialist to see if the bioplastique could be removed. Unfortunately he has said that this isn't possible.

I am now at a loss. I seriously cannot live the way I am. I have to have cotton wool permanently in my left ear otherwise I get echoes in that ear too. It also feels blocked despite the fact i have A grommet in it.

I feel like the impossible man

That's a bit harsh! Do you know what caused it? Sorry to learn that you have this.
Have you been given any prognosis?

I am hoping that I can get some pink noise therapy to help retrain my ear

Dunno, just woke up one morning, rolled over and "gloop", that was it grumpy

Back to ENT for a grommet if it hasn't sorted itself in six months.

You *will* adjust, it just takes time... smile
