Hi Guys,

The husband decided to book himself a night away with the lads the weekend of my birthday... He forgot... family wedding the next week etcetc. I am quite enjoying teasing him about this.

Anyway far from crying into my soup that weekend, I am going to do my first solo track day. Unfortunately our E36 isn't going to be ready. So I need a place, an instructor AND a car. I would prefer to learn in a 3 series if possible and don't mind taking a weekday off if there's nothing over that weekend.

I have looked around and am just not sure what to go for or who might be the best instructor. Geography isn't a problem. rotate Do any of you have any advice or suggestions?

Sorry for starting a whole new topic just for this personal request! If there's a better way to ask this question, please just let me know.

Thanks in advance for your advice and info.

Morning Alex,

hopr yuor all good.

Have you looked at a PalmerSport day at Bedford? Good range of cars and great instruction. A bit pricey but bear in mind that everything is included so doesnnt work out too bad.

Just had a day with Willie Green, ex historic racing driver. Lovely chap, excellent instructor and he has a track prepped E36 for hire also. He's near donnington so I'd suggest going there if you are not that far, fantastic track.
Drop him a mail williegreenderby@aol.com

MatthewBentleyRacing.co.uk had (has?) a BMW Compact for hire if that's close enough? And he can organise the day and coordinate an instructor with it if the other suggestions don't work out. Not something I've done or used but I know about it because he's worked on and helped me with my Elise.

These are the current car track day options if it helps: (Note the 2 Hethels are Lotus and MG)

Wow this is brilliant, thanks guys! I really appreciate it and will look into these options.

biggrin

I thought that my request might be a bit far fetched but it looks as though there might be a couple of options.

You are all great!

@Darren, Thank you yes I am ok, feeling excited about this. Hope you are well too!

P.S. Just reading about PalmerSport. I have JP's autograph from when I was a very small child and he was driving a Zakspeed. He was very much a part of my childhood Sundays. If I don't visit his outfit this time I will be sure to do it in the not too distant future. biggrin

Book-a-track will provide a Caterham 300 for the day, with instructor, pit crew and all fuel etc. I think it works out at about £800 for the day, but you can share it with one or maybe two friends to reduce the per person cost, as you probably want to be on track for 1/3 to 1/2 of the available track time. They are based out of Donington, but go to other circuits as well. Give them a call, Jonny is a good guy and should be able to sort something out for you.

Not a 3 series but Dave at Opentrack had a tiger avon and a pug 106 on his rental fleet. Which he ties up in a package of track day, car and tuition at sensible price.

All this sounds great, I have begun investigating some options. Thank you so much again. Even the info I don't use this time will be saved for later occasions.

As for our first anniversary, he says he is taking me to the 'ring Yaaaayy! Oh but then he mentions we will be meeting up with some of his friends who happen to be going at the same time...

Ah dear. I guess I will be teasing him about this one for years too! biggrin

Doesn't matter. Had Grünehölle.

I have now convinced him to ditch the current M3 project and buy an Evo in much better condition. It still needs work to become a track car but it will be more fun to work on, more 'M', less frustration and I get to use it as my dd for a while too. biggrin

So we're selling an E36 M3 and my existing dd, an SLK 230K R170 if anyone wants a new challenge!
Proper adverts will be placed in due course.
