We are heading to Nice next week. 3 days booked. Day in Monaco and Saint Tropez. Where can you recommend to eat? We want to drive across the Italian border for lunch - where do you recommend to eat? Any other tips or tricks much appreciated. We fly out Tuesday and back on Friday so we miss some kiddies kart race in Monaco!

Look forward to the replies.

Are you SURE you want to go to St Tropez? It's about a two-hour schlep from Nice. And you can easily add an hour if the traffic is bad on the road from St Maxime to St Tropez.

With only two full days I'd be looking much closer to Nice (e.g. Antibes, Beaulieu Sur Mer, Villranche, Eze, St Paul de Vince)

Jinkster take audidoody's advice and leave St Tropez for another trip, yeah it can be done and I've done it more times than I have fingers BUT with only 3 days down there it could VERY easily turn into a stressful waste of a lot of time!

St Maxime to St Tropez can be cruel (both directions)

If you are dead set on St Tropez (and I still think it would be an exhausting waste of a day on a three-day Nice trip) you could drive to St Maxime and get the ferry across to St Tropez.

It takes about 20 minutes and is a LOT more relaxing than sitting in a traffic jam for an hour and finding the car parks full when you get there.

She adamant on Saint Tropez so we'll sit in the traffic. Can you recommend anywhere to eat for dinner or lunch on the coast? Hoping to get to the Cafe de Paris in Monaco but i guess with the F1 the following weekend its going to get pretty busy.

In Monaco - I can recommend Amici Miei over at Fontvielle - near the Columbus Hotel,

Very good food and reasonably priced in a family-run restaurant with a view out to sea.

Handy for the heliport too.

or Le Bouchon out towards Larvotto (opposite the Grimaldi Forum and in between the expensive car dealers).

Cafe de Paris is vastly over-rated.

Fairy nuff. I'll send you the name of a good divorce lawyer when you return.

:-)

(PS) IF you're going to Monaco the week before the GP you should check when they start closing the roads and erecting the Armco.

I was in nice for 3 days earlier this month and actually posted a similar question!

100% the highight of the trip was Lin ch at Colombe D'or in St Paul de Vence. Make sure you book and give yourself plenty of time to get there (the buses are quite infrequent and it takes at least an hour) and plenty of time to eat (lunch finishes at 3). The atmosphere and setting is amazing - check out photos and reviews online. Then waking around the walled town is great.

I've been to St. Tropes before - great place but best in the evening, sat in a bar whatching the street performers and cars go past - make sure if you go you can hang around until then.

Antibes is a great little town and nice beach - visited there from Nice - only about 25 mins away.

In Nice the best bits are just wandering around the old town and a walk up to the park at the top of the hillier looking the port, it's a brilliant city. Can't think of anything that's must-do there but it's just a great city.

If you're looking for a place to eat in Nice that is typically Nicois then try "Chez Pipo". Bench tables and a queue, but the best socca in town.

Back from Nice, we went into Monaco every evening which was fantastic. Had a day trip to Saint Tropez, a little bit of traffic on the way back and then bombed it down the A8 so no problems at all. I really like the place and will definitely be going back - maybe September!
