Few issues with a landlord of a rented house near me. Quick check on www.landlordregistrationscotland.gov.uk shows neither of the properties I know he is landlord for are registered. Been tenants in both for over a year so am I correct in assuming he is breaking the law, worth notifying the council or keep for future leverage?

There are various exceptions to the law, it's not absolute. Council will take a soft touch approach. By all means alert them to it, but don't expect a prosecution. They are very hard to prove.

cheers bob, looks like council is sending a letter out and they will get 28 days notice to register. A bit of internet digging found his address anyway so hopefully sorted though might I might be back asking if builders working on shared land without agreement by all can be stopped and if they are committing a crime that the police could be called for (would digging up ground they don't have permission to touch be vandalism?)
