Do any car manufacturers recommend that the turbo on a turbo diesel car is replaced at a certain mileage?

My 120d has about 112k on it now, and the only thing I fear is the turbo packing up when I'm in the outside lane. Are they designed to achieve very high mileages (200k+) and some people are just unlucky, or should I factor it in as preventative maintenance at some point?

Or are there maintenance things I should be doing which will assist it in having a long, healthy life?

A little late for preventative maintenance, but regular oil changes at often less than recommended helps prolong life.

That would be a little crazy...but then some marques/engines do eat turbos.

And as most manufacturers warranty for between 60-100k....they really dont give a toss outside that, so they sure as hell would never say to people to routinely change such an item within their warranty period, as it would cost them a fortune

You should be letting them cool for a few minutes before turning off the engine when they have been, shall we say, well exercised. Prevents oil burning off bearings which would then be oil starved at next start up.

My turbo (Audi A6 C5) has done 199850 miles without incident.

Car has been serviced religiously by Audi main dealer, then Audi specialists since new.
