I have been "given" a new 12 tonne this week and I already dislike it.

Slow just doesn't do it justice,maybe it'll loosen up a bit.

Some of the dash messages are annoying re driving economically.

"Braking lightly saves fuel".......well I would if the pedal wasn't an On/Off switch.

The most comical of all is "Well anticipated"....I kid you not,if I have coasted and save a nano litre of diesel.

So anyone else got a new Daf with the condescending dash messages ?

My Mercs "bluetec" spat dummy yesterday so I ended up in a cf today and looks like ill be in it tomorrow.

The driver percentage was on 48% when I got in it, when I got out it was on 31% im guessin my driving performance has not been up to Dafs anticipation lol

Did have a few messages off it thou.

It was on 51% from New and I've seen 55% but goes up n down randomly.

Did I mention it's slow ?.....confused

I should've named this thread....." Thread where I just moan about my new truck"

Today it was telling me to change up,to 6th,top,going up a hill,so I did,2 seconds later when all momentum has gone,engine chugging,tells me to change down,quelle surprise.....rolleyes

Have I mentioned how slow it is yet ?....paperbag

Slow, uncomfortable, Slow, been out in tha CF again today awful, I had an XF before my Merc and I really cannot remember it bein that bad.

I got an airseat with this one,first since my last job.

Set quite stiff but welcome to bounce around a little rather crash over the potholes.

All the new Euro 6 trucks are pants from all the emissions strangling they have fitted. Our fleet is mainly Iveco and the new 18 tonners are absolutely horrible. They won't even pull up M62 J25-24 empty without dropping down to 50 and if there's any sign of a headwind it's mid 40s... empty. The previous gen ones we've got on 10 and 11 plates with the same size engine are flying machines. The Stralii aren't really any worse than the special gen ones as they still have the glacial acceleration and completely feel-less steering but the gear change seems to be slightly quicker.

The XF105s and FH500s on our fleet probably pull the best but the DAFs really need to be worked hard on the revs to keep them on the boil when pulling max weight. Luckily the gearboxes on these are fairly snappy so they're pretty decent to drive.

One thing we have noticed is the fuel consumption for both the diesel and adblue is significantly higher than their euro 5 brothers.

Our latest are FH500's. They pull better than the 500 EEV's we have, and drive better, they also sound wierd and use absolutely stloads of Adblue.

Don't know what consumption of diesel or adblue is like yet,only driven 700KMs in 3.5 days.

Commercial Motor seem to think the Euro 6 Mercs are much better on fuel than the Euro 5s, same with most of the others too, must be the nannying saving the fuel, rather than the overwhelming power.

Sounds like you need a 1980s F12 or 142, most of these would see about 85mph on out past us on the A75 on the mushroom run to London or when some were late for a boat on their way home ;-)

I bet it's because it's now seen that in the tradeoff of business (costs, wages, time) versus environment, the environment has officially been deemed to win the choice. Therefore the engine will prefer to favour emissions and if that means dropping to 40mph on the uphill then "that's fine".

..perhaps?

I'd say that's about the size of it, yes. My old M-reg FH12 380 would easily out-perform anything Euro 6 with up to a 500hp engine pulling full weight. Sad signs of the times. I believe they call it progress though...

Now I'm posting a partial retraction ,a back pedal.

I spent quite a lot of yesterday on the M25,surprisingly easy flowing much of the time and once

my shiny new truck had eventually got up to Vmax of 56 it was actually okay.

To the last poster,my company only does deliveries in the South East so high mileage is not going to happen.

58 reg truck that's just gone had only 265,000 KMs in 6.5 years.

Some days in London,I could do 50-100 KMs in 8-9 hours.
