Hi Alfa fans, I'm returning to the UK soon after a 10 year absence and will be looking for a very low mileage immaculate 159 Sportwagon.

Will buy privately or from a dealer. Any recommendations? Also, what are the opinions on the best engine? Won't be doing high miles so am favouring petrol.

Any assistance much appreciated.

Go for a 1750 TBI although fairly rare for the Sportwagon as 99% of them are diesels. The TBI will command higher 2nd hand prices but worth it. If you cant find one and dont care about econonmy go for the 2.4 JTDM, pulls like a train and sounds ok for a diesel.

I'll vouch for the 1750 turbo ...they only sold these post car lightening stage for under two years. I've driven them all apart from the 2.2 and have had a 2.4. Now on the 1750, it's a lovely engine- a proper Alfa unit too. Veloces had three when I looked last week...have a look there.

Another vote for the 1750 TBi from me, really like my SW Ti (61 plate) and would highly recommend one. The 2011 facelift (black dashboard) is good and I think a few of the turbo issues were alleviated on the later spec cars but a quick look on Alfa Owner will tell you everything you need to know.

There really aren't many around and Veloces seem to get all of them unfortunately. I can't recommend them as a garage as I had a very poor buying experience using them but you might have no option if you decide to go the TBi SW route.
