Iv just picked up this as my next project.

Iv never see an sl with that trim before the seller told me he thinks it was a special edition and tnat it had a badge on the console but it was stolen while in storage.

There is evidence of this badge but no idea what it was.

I mo its not everyones cup of tea but in the metal it looks quite good or it will.

Thatis untill you realise that it has a BLUE hood!!!

Anyone hear shine an light on tge subject?

Looks standard to me, Merc red interior and later/aftermarket/replica wheels on it.

Just google R129 interiors to see that colour.

Bog standard pre facelift car to me. Aftermarket wheels, can't make out the engine size from badge but could be a 280? Does it have low miles and why did they re-hood it with a wrong colour hood?

Its a 80k full history 500.

The roof is odd in blue but if its been changed its been done along time ago very well with genuine merc top.

Is there anyway to get its original build spec sheet?

Looking at the wheels, these are quite late, do check to see that the correct wheels bolts have been fitted. It is possible that those wheels have 14mm bolt holes and the 129 uses 12mm bolts. There are special bolts available if this is the case, there are 12mm bolts with a 14mm radius seat head available.

Thanks agIn for the info very useful.

What a strange colour combo for merc to even offer

The Cat thing is a bit of an odd option to offer to. I'll see if it has any on it now

Nothing wrong with a white, red and blue combo...just trying to create the union jack edition.

In all seriousness, back then, anything went and the customer chose. Not like today where MBUK severely restrict what we're allowed to order.

I love this note in a R129 brochure from about 1997. Lots of choice, but a subtle hint from M-B not to do anything too tacky....
