Doesn't history suggest that previous 996 and 997 GT3's dropped from list price at £80-£100k down to around £40-50k then bounce back, or have I got that completely wrong? If that is the case, what is to stop the 991 taking a similar tumble over the course of the next few years?

I know most don't like taking values, but it would appear Porsche's have been a little more predictable over the years, especially the GT range, and I'd really like to get my hands on one soon.
I would argue the announcement of the PDK only, non Mezger 991 GT3 was a huge influence behind that bounce back in 997 prices.

If they bring out a manual 991 GT3 Gen 2, prices will surely fall a little.

Too much money around, 991 GT3 relatively underpriced compared to the competition and the cars (all GT3's) have become an asset class for investment. So many low mileage/delivery mileage cars around for good reason.

I'd expect these to revert to list, and that is very good going for any expensive sports car. The GT4 is the bargain GT car.
The 991 is a depreciating asset at the moment, if we go by past history this gt car should bottom out in 5 years time to around 60k.

You could also sell the 997 which will be about 100k by then and have 40 large change.

Result.

Please explain what makes the 991 gt3 any different to the 996 and 997 gt3 both lost at least 50% of there value at some point in there lives.

The specialist car market has had a good run over the last 3 years, this will not last forever......FACT

By the end of the year the 991 gt3 will be back to list.

If by the end of the year you expect to see 991 GT3's back at list, where then do you see the prices for the 996 and 997 GT3's?

In relation to that, where do you see the prices for a 991 GTS or Targa sitting? Or even a 991 C2S?

Or F355's which have gone from 50k to 80k in a couple of years, what about old Fords, are XR3i's going to crash and burn as well?

There is no reason why you can't have dislocated markets where 991 is trading below a 997 and even possibly a 996. How do you explain that 996 GT3 are trading almost at par to 997.1 GT3? And 996RS are trading ABOVE 997.1 RS.

The average joe who walks into a Porsche showroom doesn't want a hardcore street racer like a GT3. He walks in looking for an upgrade to his BMW M3 or Audi RS# .... and is happy enough to walk out with a boggo standard brand new 991 C2S.

Also, unlike house prices where there is a supply issue which is unlikely to be solved even in the medium term, car manufacturers are continuing to ramp up production and produce new models and new variants. The high-performance end of the market can only absorb a certain amount of supply. Therefore, this bubble will ultimately burst. Which will be great for the true enthusiasts and hopefully put the speculators to bed.

Pete thanks for not swearing at me this time!

Being a car enthusiast yourself you know you can't compare the prices of classic cars to brand new cars.

A lot of old cars have increased in value dramatically over the last 2 to 4 years. Will this last I doubt it very much as the average joe can't justify paying some of the prices being ask, 20k plus for an old factory spec escort is just plain stupid. IMO.

The problem the uk 991 gf3 has is the volume of cars out there, the truth of the matter is Porsche said the numbers would be a lot lower than what they actually built. There are currently 50 plus cars for sale on piston heads alone, let's not forget the gt3 is not what the average 991 buyer is looking for.

Out of interest who on this forum is now looking to by a 991 gt3 and is happy to pay more than £150k for it?

I'm sure we won't have 50 people posting there new pics saying what a great buy they had this month!

I would imagine the 991 gts to deprecate at the same rate a 997gts depreciated for the first 12 months.

Am I correct in saying you can now buy a very nice 997 gts for high 50s , weren't these 90k to 100k plus new depending on specification?

Never looked at the 997 targa to be honest as it didn't appeal to me.

You are right about the 997GTS.

I doubt that a great deal can be had on this since the owner is still some 25k away from current market and has to pay JZM SOR fees, but maybe worth a phone call and cheeky bid to those who are looking to accept prices will still fall but looking to get in at fairer levels. The car has been on JZM website for near 3 months and advert has included the following now:

"Our Client Is Keen To Talk & Open To Offers"

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Be in mind, this won't be last 'open to offers' car, especially as RS and GT4 deliveries appear, you will certainly see the appearance of even more committed and motivated sellers, and bigger price drops.

The 997 GTS started at about mid-70k.

The wording in that advert sums up the current 991 gt3 market.

Shame the advert is 25k more expensive than two other similar spec cars currently for sale

Was in Porsche Chester before, was mighty impressed with the 991 GTS but for me, they will drop like a stone new, as have all other variants apart from the GT cars. I'm certainly keen to get in a GT3, but prices don't reflect demand and that is too much of a concern for me to dip my toe in the water!
