Hi there,
Wonder if you experts can help?
I have a Ford SMAX which I bought as an ex fleet car about 5 years ago. It is an 2006 plate and done 170,000. I do about 7000 per year, a big chunk of which is family holiday driving in Europe (so reliability important). It has started having some annoying costs such as air con replacing, the electronic hand brake sorting and other smaller things which each year seems to cost around £600 on top of service!! But has not actually broken down en route yet (touch wood).

Recently someone **** bashed into the car while it was unattended and I could leave the dent or get a new door put on...c£700.
Also we want to do bike holidays now kids are growing so may need a tow bar hitch adding which looks like another few hundred pounds.

Looking at Parker my car is realistically not worth much more than £3500 as it currently stands.

So my question is should I investment in the current car or am I better off buying another one?

If you're happy with it then hang on to it. Ours is a 2006 and seems to be a bit of a Friday afternoon car. Bits fail all over the place and have done since about 30k miles. It's now up to 90k and currently the list stands at; no horn, no high level brake light, no reversing lights, no parking sensors, exhaust Is blowing again and a new sidelight bulb has just blown (I have a busy weekend ahead of me very soon).
That's not counting the various bits of broken trim and repairs already undertaken.
For all that though it still carts the kids about well enough and SWMBO likes it.
With 170k on it I think that you're doing well.
