Hi, I am currently studying a business degree but have a strong passion for Motorsport and F1 in particular so kind of hope to move into this industry on the non driver side in the future.

My problem is I feel you 100% need work experience to be successful, but finding any contacts or making an head way on this seems impossible... so I was wondering if anyone could offer any solid advice on any companies or organisations to pursue for some summer or on going work experience.

The areas i'm looking at are marketing, sales and PR (at any level of Motorsport at this point in time) but as I said my searches keep giving me dead ends.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm guessing there is some vast and great knowledge here. May i add that I am not crying for someone to do all the ground work for me, I have just come to a dead end and really am craving a bit of guidance/ push in the right direction.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

One area to consider are the larger clubs like BARC ,BRSCC,750mc ,they are always looking for help on the non racing side .You will soon make contacts throughout motorsport with the management side of the sport .

Also definitely approach Mission Motorsport: www.missionmotorsport.org

A brilliant charity to be associated with - and they exist on volunteers and media placement.

Here's a reply you don't want to hear.

Concentrate on your career outside motorsport but keep your eyes open and your knowledge vast. There is a lot of money in certain sectors of motorsport but they don't want to give it to someone with no experience. They like to spend it on shiny bits.

Once you've developed your skills in your sector, you can take what you have to offer to the motorsport industry.

If you try to get in at the bottom then there's a huge chance you'll be a teaboy for the pit crew with no way of moving up.

No, I like to hear that because it's advice and it's what I'm here asking for so thank you!

I understand that point of view and that is potentially the plan, to return to Motorsport later in my career, but I'm just starting to explore the channels now before I graduate so I can potentially get experience even before I graduate.

I know it's not an easy industry to get in to but I firmly believe it is very possible with hard work and determination!

I really wish you luck and hope you do well. Certainly volunteering is the best (only?) way of getting experience in the short to medium term.

I would love to have worked in Motorsport when I left the RN and the nearest I got was coming second in a job interview for Brands Hatch! Since then I have worked (without pay!) part time for a team in Britcar and British GT and on the Committee of a race club/ race series co-ordinator and really enjoyed iboth and found ithem very rewarding roles.

Thank you, appreciate that! I'm really up for volunteering at this stage of my development, almost in any form just to build up some social capital if nothing else, but even that seems a bit difficult to achieve!

Sounds like a really good experience to be honest even without pay, at least you have some involvement! Never know where it may lead.
