Dear PPers,

any help on the following would be much appreciated, before i take this GTC to a dealer and have to sell off my first born. Ive recently been experiencing a tapping/buzzing noise, quite loud from right at the back of the engine bay, sounding like its coming from the drivers side. Its intermittent, and first arose a few months ago, stayed for a couple of weeks before disappearing for a few months and now reappearing.

Because its intermittent, it obviously disappeared when i last had it serviced a few weeks ago, and the HR Owen mentioned they couldnt find a fault.

The noise continues sometimes when the engine is off as well for a few seconds before stopping.

Any clues at all would be very much appreciated!!

There's a load of little air pipes at the back of the engine and they often split. Happened on ours recently.

Thanks very much. Sounds much less ominous than I feared. Out of interest, what were the symptoms in your case?

If it is the common manufacturing / design defect that causes false air, plan on an engine-out fix. Many, many Bentley GT / GTC cars suffer this problem over their lifetime. Mine went at only 28k miles and the cost was around $4k USD to sort out.

Cost me £3,450 at a main dealer. Ouch!
An Indie would be much cheaper.

might be the brake vacuum pump bleeding off - lots of cars do it and I doubt its anything to worry about - has the car got a stop/start system by any chance?

The vacuum pipes on top of the gearbox are prone to splitting. It requires an engine/gearbox out to fix the problem. Getting them out requires the front suspension to be dropped as well. It's a big job. Definitely not one for the DIY man.

Was it not covered under warranty? or are you out of warranty?

Out of warranty. Had to rely on the bank of me unfortunately.
Luckily the replacement part is supposed to be an upgraded item so perhaps mine won't go again.

Just having this replaced on warranty on mine.

"Vacuum pipe behind steering rack split. Req engine removal."

Was making a grring/grinding/whirring noise

They came and collected it, confirmed it was the above and said they needed it for a week to sort as its 16+ hours of engineer time.
