After 6 weeks of test drives and searching the web for a suitably specked M5/6 a decision has been made
None of the cars I have seen has ticked enough boxes to make me pull the trigger, so I have an appointment later to negotiate a deal on a new build to my spec. The dealer is aware of the price I am willing to pay so fingers crossed he can get somewhere near, if he can I will order today ................... EXCITED !!!

Would be great to know what you can pull off. Hi HoHoHo
The "price to change" is key for me. Pretty sure I can get a decent discount of the M5, its how much of that discount I will be financing through depreciation on my 640d (6 months old )
Was unable to make yesterday so rearranged for Saturday. If the price is right I will pull the trigger, the dealership know me well so hopefully loyalty might swing the deal in my favour

Is that just a reflection of the fact that the LCI and revised CP has only just come out? This should mean that an M5 with CP (if you can live with a mere 575bhp) is substantially cheaper for not a lot less car.
I just think the level of "discount" has dropped. Why I am not sure but if this new M6 CP does not sell well (which it wont) then later this year thing may change.I got my M6 GC CP with 34K off which was just great, depreciation not that great from the prices I have seen, you pay more for secondhand than I payed new.

I'd imagine the depreciation on a 6 month old 640d will be epic, I'll watch with interest mine is 10 months old and haven't dared to enquire about changing so soonThe "price to change" is key for me. My 640 was sitting in the showroom when I bought it so I got a good deal on it. Prepared to take a hit ,but will not give it away. If cost is too high I will happily walk, the 640 is a great car with a good spec, driving it for another 12 months will be no hardship ....... BUT ITS NOT AN M5
Well guys the deal is done
San Marino Blue, black leather with Piano Black. HK, 20", comfort access, speed limit display, surround view, multifunction seats, privacy, service pack and guaranteed build slot for next month.
Took a bit of a hit "as expected" on the 6er but got 19% discount on the M
Its cost me, but nothing I can not live with

Was my local dealer, don't think it would be much help to anyone else's bargaining as it was based on the amount of business my family and I have put their way over the last 10 years . I have seen how much they are making out of the deal and its not much. My loyalty to 1 dealer has come up trumps more than once, very happy
As a very simple rule of thumb maximum 'normal' discount should be 12% plus whatever 'chassis support'' bmw UK is throwing in. At the moment on the M6 this is £6,500. On the M5 £2,500.
So John on your £102,230 spec you should achieve £12,267 + £6,500 = £18,767 at least
The discounts before were much better because the chassis support was £18k!
You may get more if the dealer is willing to lose money on an individual chassis to hit a volume bonus- but the above is rule of thumb for breakeven for them. Having a trade in makes it even more complicated as they may offset what they can mark your trade up by when they sell it into the above figures to still break even on the deal.
Then if you buy it with someone else's money there is the kickback on the finance...
