Hi All,

Hope everyone’s car is doing well!!??

We have been thinking about changing Mrs Ice’s car over the last couple of days, currently she drives a 2008 W204 Mercedes C200 CDI Elegance. She really like this car, the image, options and gadgets, economy etc.

Originally she was thinking of a mid-SUV like the Volvo XC60 but she also mentioned a mini.

Now I’m pretty sure the normal mini will be too small, so I have turned my thoughts on the Clubman, which is supposed to have more leg room and a useable boot. We would probably go for a 2010-11 model Cooper D or Cooper SD, but is there enough room for two adults up front and two boys aged 11 & 13 in the back?

We have the E-class estate for long trips and general family stuff but I want to make sure the mini can handle the odd occasion with the four of us?

For occasional family use, the Clubman is ideal.

I think they have something like an extra 4 inches of legroom. Provided those in the front aren't 6 ft 6in, you'll be fine smile

I read somewhere the there was an additional 2.5" more leg room in the rear.

Having said that we are both sub 5ft 10" ! So should be fine on rear legroom for the kids?!

Rear space is fine in a clubby, I drove to the ring with a 5'10 mate in the back and he was fine for space(other than the luggage) so I suspect occasional use would be ideal.

Personally, I would recommend a cooper SD of that vintage or an LCi CooperD as the pre-LCi model has a psa lump which isnt amazingly reliable but the LCi car has a BMW lump. The SD has the same engine(afaik) all the way through.

What is Lci ?

how can I tell?

I would prefer a Cooper SD but budget might dictate Cooper D.

We have had a Clubman S for four years, and use as main family car.

We have two kids (two and six years old).

For holidays and breaks we cram everything in with a roof box. (prams, travel cot, kids seats, toys, scooters, high chair, plus clothes and general stuff)! So it can be a family car! smile

I have a 2012 Clubman SD and can't fault it.

Got a little one on the way and thought i would have to change the car but there is no need. I can fit the push chair in the boot and ISOfix the car seat.

Also driven to the south of France with people in the back and its fine for leg room.

Clubman SD owner here too and I'd echo everything that's already been said - great little cars. My "little" one is now just under 6' and thankfully SWMBO is a bit shorter at 5'4" yet we can all fit in comfortably.

Off to Italy this summer and with the roof box on my only problem will be whether to fill it with wine or beer.
