I tried that years ago & had to stop doing it. I was laughing so much at the Goon Shows I couldn't drive properly.
Really?! Each to their own :-)

I drive 3 hours a day and just have the radio on alternating between Talk Sport, Radio 1, 2 & 4 (Archers).

My commute is 10 mins no not much but for business journeys, another vote for audiobooks. Ludlum novels and the like. Journeys fly by I find compared to listening to music

I'm sorry for the droll and humourless response, but given the amount of accidents per day (4 of them fatal) on today's roads I would just stick to concentrating on driving and what is going on around you. Driving takes 100% commitment and concentration, If you are trying to multitask whilst driving then you are a bit of a dhead tbh.
If you think that driving and listening is "multitasking" and your dangerous on the road then I would kindly ask that you hand in YOUR licence as you are obviously not capable of driving safely yourself.

There's only one dhead on this thread...

Thanks to everyone else for the sensible suggestions. Listened to a couple of Jon Gaunt podcasts this morning and managed not to have an accident as well!
You quite clearly state "but does anyone use their commute to learn something new"
As the others point out this infers something else other than just listening to something enjoyable.
You quite clearly don't know what infer means.

Old radio shows - Round the Horne, the navy lark, goon shows - when I used to do runs up the M1/M6 these got through the long hours.

Yep, done the same. Eeeeee fallern in der wahter!

OP - download the Bugle Podcast. Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver talk total bks about the news, while John gets progressively more famous and successful and Andy... doesn't. You've got 295 episodes upon which to catch up so that should pass some time.

Nice selective quoting there rolleyes

I also said that I need to concentrate on driving and mentioned podcasts (which others agree are not dangerous to listen to when driving) which you chose to ignore from the same sentence of my OP. Not once did I say I wanted to get an open university degree whilst on the road...

As it stands I've learned quite a bit that I didn't know a week ago from listening to Jon Gaunt's podcasts so I have achieved my aim without having or causing any accidents.

I'm sure Gillian Taylforth would have some good suggestions.
I am sure this should be in the knob thread.

Friend of mine spent months trying to learn French, using a library of CDs in the car.

He arrived at Calais and went to fill up and a young beautiful French girl came out to assist.

At that stage, he says, all of his hours of learning went out of the window and so he turned to her and said

'Fill eeet urrrp!'
