Anyone else noticed the stupid craze of tiny font numberplates that seem to be everywhere on chavvy cars at the moment? Surely these are illegal?

Like these...

hardly a crazy, they were an awful lot more common 10 years+ ago when the police were far less strict on illegal number plates

I can't believe how offensive you've been to such a legendary car.

I saw one on a Leon Cupra this morning.

I didn actually wonder how long the owner could drive before he gets pulled over.

I use one on the front of my VX220 after losing 2 normal size ones to speed bumps. Never been pulled over.

Yes they are illegal and the drivers leave themselves open to be pulled over and a fine.

Now thats out of the way what has it got to do with you ? and who are you to decide whats chavvy ?. Im sure we all see lots of things on cars that isnt our personal taste but dont take photos and post them on here. Get a grip of yourself and worry about your own car and life.

Monaro's actually are allowed slightly smaller plates/letters due to being an import and not type approved so this example "might" be legal smile

But there is plenty of space there for a legal UK plate so that import regulation doesn't apply to them.

Calm down chap - isn't the OP entitled to express his opinion? There are plenty of threads on here regarding other people's cars and whether or not they are ste, poorly modified or just plain chav wagons. Like this one, for example - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

If you're not a fan of talking about and expressing opinions (both positive and negative) on cars that don't belong to you, you may be in the wrong place.

For the record, the plates are both illegal and qualify as fully-fledged chav tat.

Obvious need in your case.
No, not really.

Indeed.

If it was officially sold new here - or anywhere in Europe - it will fit a legal front plate. End of. No ifs, no buts.

Photos were taken from another thread and from Google. No need to get on your high horse. Take a Valium and chill out.

I would say, that generally speaking, when I see any sort of modified numberplate - small font, non-standard font or spacing, or numberplate on dash - I assume chav.

Usually it is on a chavvy car with a chavvy driver. Yet to see a non-tracksuit wearing person driving around with small font numberplate on their car.

Its very much a generalisation, but as with any stereotype there is a some truth in it.

It's an internet discussion forum, love.

People post things on here and other people comment upon them. Sometimes those comments are favourable, sometimes they aren't. It's what happens, it makes the world go round.

If we didn't discuss things, Lord Heseltine wouldn't be a happy bunny, now would he?

because this looks stupid, if it was legal I'd gladly have a smaller one.

Full size plate can be mounted higher up, looks a bit st though covering the radiator intake. No doubt many will say the above looks st, but I don't really care.

Yes, it looks stupid. Those tall-but-narrow Japanese-shape plates always do.

There's plenty of space there for a normal UK plate.

Not within the confines of the bumper without resorting to the pictures below, Wikipedia says that a 600cc + standard private car plate in Japan is between 20cm (extra small) to 44cm (large) wide, a standard UK plate is 52cm wide so too large to fit it in the designated space whilst remaining legal.
