Hello,

After washing my 02 S last weekend, I opened the boot to find that the gas strut isn't doing its job properly and need to be replaced. Does anybody know what it's from so that I could replace it please?

I've found a website that sells them and as I'm about to order a replacement mirror glass from them that I would try to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

many thanks in anticipation.

I replaced mine on my TuscanS with one rated at 650N from SGS http://www.sgs-engineering.com/, I have had two standard ones and neither could support the weight of the heavier S boot lid, no problem with the up-rated one.

Hi NCE 61,

Thanks for your response.

That link doesn't work. My S is the Mk1, so the spoiler isn't part of the boot lid. As the car is concours, I would ideally like to replace it rather than upgrade it.

Good info thanks
Can I ask where you are getting the replacement mirror glass from?
I recently purchased one from TVR Parts and it's not framed and also it is convex which really causes blurred vision being that close to you (or is that just me ?)

Hi, Thanks for that.

Mine have a little bit of edge creep and so I found this place online, determined not to get a stick on set, I wanted to retain the heated element of them:

i've just bought mine from sags engineering....i went for a stainless steel version exactly the same...the normal one is 14.99 so a considerable amount of saving if you want like for like. you just need to measure centres and the stroke length. give them a call and they do the rest

OP, I don't think that a replacement strut from SGS would be deemed spoiling the car? The company are very professional and helpful in their dealings with customers. I used them to supply the bonnet struts when I did the conversion.

Likewise, when the O/S mirror glass appeared to loose some of the silvering on my car, I got a VW Corrado replacement from Ebay, removed the original from the car and with care, removed the heater element to place on the new glass. Simples! and cost was about £10.
