What is this?

http://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/nicola-sturg...

Why does the SG think it needs to fund separate activities to the UK. Surely this is just tinkering to try and create a divisive "intra-UK" political effect.

Still, at least it seems Alex spent £45k trying to eradicate foodbanks! Oh wait....

Saw that yesterday, hilarious.

What a bunch of utter fannies. It's going to be a long, cold winter.

Although it could be said they're more on the pulse than most, if they're using it as a test run for an iS when we'll all be living in tents...

A friend has claimed that if we stopped paying Westminister cash, we would have an extra £12 billion a year to spend.

I'm not sure what magical abacus they are using to get that figure, i would imagine if it was real, they would have shouted it from the roof tops.
That's a nice boost to the £35 billion a year we already get.

Said friend is as pro snp as they come so there isn't enough salt in the known universe to take that claim with.
No surprise that a link to said claim, is currently not forthcoming... hehe

Unsurprisingly... because he's camping at Holyrood with no phone charger? What can you do, eh.

Perhaps we could start a FB group: "camping in my lovely warm home until hell freezes over and Scotland becomes independent" hehe

Honestly, what is wrong with these people? A tenner says they're back home by Easter.

And why would I be involved in this?! The last time I looked at this thread I was being accused of being a female and now I'm one of these loonies!

Shame we didn't all meet for a few beers when we tried to arrange it a few years ago.

It's not permanent residents as I understand it - various people are staying for a night or three when their employment(!?) allows.

You've not been accused of anything. Touchy much? wink It's a nationalist initiative in Edinburgh so I asked if you're involved.

A pint with you might be interesting - if it's anything like here I expect we'd enter conversation then you'd excuse yourself to answer a phone call and return 3 days later laugh

Nah, i don't see him often, but he's on fb. I unsubcribed as seeing several posts of utter pish a day about how the sun shines out the snp's arse, no voters are all scum and were lied to, are changing their minds etc.
That get's boring and laughable at how wrong it is.

Ah well. If he's still blind to their flaws and the shambles they are making of the country, then it's not my fault.

Not content with imposing state sponsored guardians for your kids.....( with very wide reaching powers) and making your children sing Anti Polaris songs at secondary school....

The SNP are now out to impose control over Scottish Universities.

“What the public cannot understand is why the Scottish Government continue to be hell-bent on meddling in university governance where no problem exists rather than focusing on all the other major issues in education which they are failing on including falling rates of literacy and numeracy, a widening attainment gap between rich and poor, cuts to teacher number and 140,000 fewer college places."

Well said.

Indeed, but the otherwise inexplicable actions of the SNP prioritising what would appear to be less-than-pressing issues is down to what myself and other commenters in here have observed about the SNP and what the greater media is now also commenting on. The SNP are not about governance - they are about independence and they are seeking to entrench their position in Scottish culture and society (hence all the bullcrap about being anti-SNP means you are ant-Scottish).

They have already infiltrated the schools curriculum - mandating Scottish texts in literature classes (selected from authors with a nationalistic leaning), and the teaching of Scottish art, music and history (again, selective artists and incidents) because of course state education in Scotland is under the remit of Holyrood.

The first step to achieving the same end in universities is to take away their autonomy.

Nazi comparisons wholly valid.

It's all being done to 'improve transparency', don't you know (and of course there was no such thing as gas chambers - they were really showers!)

Back in August the Nats said they would announce the Scottish rate of income tax after the UK spending review. This new rate will come into effect in April next year.

article said:
we will propose an income tax rate after seeing the detail of the UK Government’s spending review, which is not scheduled until late November."

Lets see if they put their money where their mouth is now. They keep banging on about 'fairness', 'a more equal Scotland', people 'paying their fair share' and other similar meaningless sound bites. Well here is their chance to implement their dream of a socialist utopia and go on a spending spree on public services and welfare.

There is also talk of a local income tax being introduced and/or extra council tax bands being added.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13582845.Scots_...

These tax rises will just force people and capital south of the border - then who will they blame for not having enough money to spend?
