Cook is very conservative with his declarations so I agree and think that us getting bowled out made a result more likely, think NZ would have gone for it if they had not lost the early wickets

Great match, great cricket, great spirit and sportsmanship.

Really warmed the heart for so many reasons.

Interesting analysis on the Sky Verdict programme that suggested that England's loss of their final second innings wickets happened at just the right time and a declaration might not have been similarly timed.
I thought that too, I've felt that Cook's declarations always seem on the late side.

It certainly forced Cook's hand and gave us a few overs before lunch to grab some early wickets. I think Cook would have declared at lunch and therefore NZ probably would have managed to get a draw.

It was a great test match overall and both teams played it in the right way i.e. both scoring at 4 runs an over, attacking the bowlers, and both trying to play a form of aggressive cricket.

Hopefully the same in Leeds on Friday.

FFS London.

You have Hayles or Lythe. AL was judged to be first in the queue so he gets the nod and he has to get more than one match.

Bell is in a mini rut of bad form - but he is an utter class bat who thrives on confidence. He has provenance against the Aussies, esp on home soil. He gets until the 3rd test at least to show his ability again.

Test match cricket isn't wham bam st. You wanted KP he is "exciting". Have you not seen Joe Root bat? Have you not seen Joss Butler bat when he goes off on one? You had obviously never seen Stokes bat before or you would have been saying "wait till Stokes fires"!

England supporters - never fking happy. The problem with some of you is that you don't remember the mid 90s.

Great performance by England.

If those in form can maintain that form, and those out of form regain their form...then the Ashes might be a decent contest.....

Hmm, how about Broad hitting the cover off it and standing there like the cock that he is

Post what you like cobber, we can all pick plenty of no walks. The link you quoted was about the obstinate stupidity of Watson wasting reviews.

If the weather in Leeds is as bad as it is in Leicester, then today will be a washout.

Your captain set the standard. Broad just took a leaf out of Clarke's book.

I live about a mile away. Was pissing down most of the night. Drizzling and grey when I drove past the ground at 8am.

You never know with English weather, but it looked pretty grim.

3 overs - 2 runs, 1 wicket.

Anderson gets an outside edge off his 2nd over in some light drizzle and we all come straight off, covers back on.
