I have a 507 coupe atm and a C63s on order for September. Absolutely agree the styling is not quite there but if you jump on a Mercedes forum you will read about existing c63 owners loving the new car. It has all the same AMG character as the outgoing car but they have just moved the needle in every area - performance, interior, handling , tech and it still sounds amazing.

agreed and there are tuning packages taking it to over 600 bhp / 800 NM torque, top speed in excess of 205 mph...

In true PH form, the majority of the comments are about (subjective) styling. Real shame people can't appreciate that the main thing is that manufacturers still make exciting car from a driving experience pov.

It still looks as grimly vulgar, no matter where you drive it.

"One one thousand two one thousand" then the power comes?

Sounds like a lot of lag - surely disappointing to live with every day

Nope, previous one for me please.
Agreed. - The supposed extra flat-out performance of this new model is irrelevant for anyone not using the vehicle in competitive motorsport, which realistically is, as near as makes no difference, every owner. I'd much rather have a slightly slower car that's more entertaining for the situations in which it's going to be used. This also applies to the handling, with the above article likening the old C63 to a muscle car. - "Grip and go" is fine, but to get any enjoyment out of it, you pretty much have to be on an empty, or closed, road.

The extra MPG may make a difference though - the old model's could be off-putting to those intending to use the car as a daily driver, especially as a used car.

Styling-wise, I actually quite like this new car. I think I "get" the styling direction, especially the rear, as it appears to mimic classic / vintage Mercedes lines. I like that the standard car is quite subtle, as owners will no doubt have the choice of more aggressively-styled options later on.

The interior? Mixed bag. I'm not a fan of ICE that's not easily replaceble (DIN or Double-DIN headunits which covers almost every new car these days) but that said, the dash-mounted screen doesn't provoke particularly strong feelings either way. I'm also not a fan of electric parking brakes in performance cars, though with a 2-pedal gearbox it's much less of an issue. Otherwise, it looks and, based on my experience of the regular C-Class, feels like a very nice place to be.

I hope that the seats are more uncomfortable than the ordinary C class. I have a C300 Sport estate and they are the worst seats I have ever experienced. Part of it sticks into my upper back. May have to resort to using a Stanley knife since MB are uninterested.
I have had my gearbox reprogrammed three times because of very jerky changes and the traffic reports have stopped functioning for the 3rd time. Its going back to garage again for the 4th time since March. I think this will be last MB, shame as the car is generally good.

Whilst Im sure it's a great car to drive (i have a test drive booked in one next week, so will find out), I can't understand why they can't take a leaf out of BMW and Audi's book and make the fastest model look a lot less like the slowest model
There's no way you'd confuse and M3/4 with a 320d and the same can be said for how the RS4 looks so much better than the regular A4's
I'm sure it's 10/10 for engineering, but I'd want to look a lot less like jo blogs sales rep in his C200

Surely though for lazy driving you'd be in auto so this wouldn't happen, if you were going for a hoon or having a bit of fun you'd change down a gear, reading the full quote in context sounds like it was looking for a scenario to show drawbacks of this engine which probably wouldn't be apparent unless you go looking for them.

I'm not a big fan of the saloon either, looks terrible compared to the W204 C63 saloon.

But I do actually prefer the estate and quite fancy a standard C63 with the LSD next. I loved my C63 Coupe and I'm curious to see how the new Coupe will look too, but think the estate is the way forward.

Interesting to see that in reality there is no difference in mpg compared to the old model. Spirited driving in my previous C63 returned 14mpg, and motorway 24-26mpg (total average 18.5mpg over 24k miles).

The performance of the new car is epic though.

I know I seem to be on my own, but I think the new C class is a real return to form for Mercedes styling.

I thought the last few were terrible, but for the first time in a long while I'm tempted by one.

Each to their own.
You're not alone - I agree with you!

As a current C63 saloon owner it is nice to see that the car has retained the main AMG trait - sound. Having sat in one recently at my local dealer the following were my thoughts:

- noise on start up - tick
- noise on revving engine - tick
- interior - tick. The seats are just spectacular, and much easier to get in and out of now without bolster wear and tear.
- exterior - not sure. Liked the front and side profile, the back of the saloon did not float my boat that much to be honest. Think the estate looks much better.

Would I jump into one of these in 16 months when my finance agreement comes to an end? Not sure. My current car is a 14 plate with 5k miles on the clock and has the all important LSD from factory. The sound seems to get better as I put more miles on it and averaging 17mpg with very little motorway driving, not sure just how much more car I would be getting in real world driving by "upgrading". I fear that for most of us who do not plan on "drifting" to work the extra power and torque will be pretty pointless for 5-6 months a year. What I need is more traction and not power/torque to enjoy the car all year round. I think Mercedes are missing a trick by not giving UK buyers the AWD option. Audi RS is probably where I end up laying my hat next if I part with my much loved W204.

It does look bloody awful doesn't it.
Is it in all new Mercs (I've seen it in the A class I think). I can't imagine someone signing a S class off that looked like that?

As much as I admire Merc quality, when are they going to design a car that does not look like three different cars.

The rear looks like a Kia saloon. The side like a half arsed effort to copy the 3 series. The side creases are not as sharp and elegant as the 3. The increasing body area behind the rear window makes it look like a Hyena, though it is better than earlier models.
The front does look distinctive and like a Merc.

Cannot see the benefits of one of these over an RS4. Driven a rear wheel driver Merc in bad weather and unless there is maximum three letter electronic intervention on they are a nightmare.

However they will sell very well, they sound great and that colour is amazing.

Have to agree with most folk on here. The last C class started off ok and they improved it over the life cycle with more aggressive headlights, exactly what Jaguar did with the XF

This new one does look like a pack of Lurpak left in the sun slightly too long before you rush it back to the fridge hoping it will be ok.

Also, square exhausts. Sporting Vectra's had those. They look cheap.

Oval exhausts of the older C63 look more expensive and classy, not something you could knock up at a welding shop in Dartford.
