Won't you be in for a surprise when the cops say you have no independent witness and that the damage from the van could have happened anywhere.

Apparently, me and 2 other professional (SC) colleagues imagined my front wing getting hit despite having description of car, reg and driver.

Karma, bh, karma!

"Anyone injured?"
"No."
"It's a civil matter, Sir, good day."

Yep, this. The fact they drove off might make them mildly more interested but the fact there was no other vehcile involved makes it unlikely. You never know, though.

Hope it all gets sorted. Not a nice feeling especially when they have an accident and drive off.

Can't you just dump it on your house insurers? These things can be dragged out for months until you lose the will to live.

The fact that the scrote drove off doesn't bode well, though.

Surely if everything was above board, and given that he knew he'd been seen, he wouldn't have driven off.

Sorry to say it but I reckon you're going to be the one paying for this (or your insurers are), unfortunately, even if the BIB bother to catch up with him.

Have you checked there isn't a Yodel 'Sorry we missed you' note in the rubble somewhere?

Probably could, but I will wait and see what the Police produce. At the end of the day, some scum bag has damaged my property and I don't see why he should get off scott free. Looks like the van may have shifted the wall off the foundations, so this could get expensive. If I claim on my insurance, it may end up costing me more on the premium.

The good news is that a lad turned up at our door step at 8 am this morning with a piece of paper. He had seen the whole thing and written down the details, a description of the driver and was happy for me to pass his details onto the police.
Just give it to your house insurers and they'll sort all of this out. The police action and the repairing of the wall are not connected in anyway. One is a criminal matter, math other civil. As for the increase in premium, then why bother having the insurance if you're scared if claiming. House insurance is peanuts anyway and rarely comes with defined NCD
