Nurburgring travel insurance

Hey guys,

Heading to the Nurburgring for a stag do this weekend, and have been searching without much success for travel insurance that covers driving on the ring. Have looked through the bimmerpost forums and bridgetogantry, but can only find information on car insurance, which isn't as necessary as we have a rental race car (a Suzuki Swift). Has anyone got any ideas for companies that would provide travel insurance that would cover this? Or alternatively, companies to stay away from would help too.

If you are driving tourist drives then you are driving a public road and don't need specific cover, and will probably have enhanced cover through the rental insurance anyway.

Thats about right, just dont crash a rental, excess can be high.

I would have thought that normal personal travel insurance would cover you as the Ring is a German Toll Road covered by the normal rules of the road.

This assumes that it is not specifically excluded like it is on most, if not all, UK motor policies.

Ins co might well decide to exclude just like Skiing Scuba and Skydiving. Who wants the hassle of trying to fight when the claim is denied?

I decided to go for Alpha Insurance in the end, called them and they said it would be covered when you add-on activity pack 6. Thought I'd post it here as I'd had difficulty finding a company to cover it, and this may help someone in future. I was also recommended insuremytrackday.com on Bimmerpost, but their cover starts at £40 according to the website.

Not worth the risk, sometimes bad enough on the roads let alone the Ring.
Four bikers died around the Eifel in two days this past w/end, one twenty meters away from our house.Hit a car then the armco then he and bike jumped the armco and flew straight into the trees.Med team spent forty mins trying to get him stabilised.So fking sad this has to happen!

Yeah, I agree, I'd never do it without a helmet, but I was glad to have the health cover in the event that something went wrong. So sad to hear of fatalities whilst we were there, there were 3 closures of the track whilst I was there, and the med-team was out there incredibly quickly.

From my experience there this weekend, most of the drivers are okay, but you will occasionally get someone testing their boundaries and not realising where their limit is. For anyone heading out there, I'd plan for several closures of the track, apparently 6 a day is normal for tourist weekends, so bare that in mind if you're with a large group. Also, our rental car had an engine management issue that prevented myself and others from having a drive around, which I'm pretty gutted about.

No they didn't. They did get quite drunk at the Burgstube in the evening though.

If you posted online that 2 people died in Tescos yesterday, they'd quite rightlfully sue you for libel. Maybe some fact-checking is in order? Can you give us some evidence of these two deaths? First stop is normally RLP Polizei website which lists all traffic incident with fatals or severes.

Village gossip strikes again then Dale.Was told this by what had always been a reliable source in the past.Told in explanation why the ring was closed for an hour and a half the other morning.Accident "allegedly "happened at the bottom of Fox hole.
No name but a long term source of info such as yourself who has been here for quite a while . Didn't know the polizei site existed-but do now.
One other thing is that the reffered to incident was being reported online by a Deutche news page as a 56 and 24 year had died that morning.Obviously cannot believe anything you read on the web these days.

Two guys were seriously injured when their NSU Prinz flipped at Metzgesfeld (not Fuchsröhre) during the Classic car stint on Sunday morning and one Dutch biker died on the road up to Nürburg from Adenau.

Unless you know the facts, don't post stuff like this on the internet, all you are doing is damaging the ring, regardless of your reliable source.

Makes my bloody piss boil this does.

Like already said Karl, the info was already on the web as reported by a german had read that after being told about it, then posted on here.
The dutch rider crashed into a merc carrying three kiddies, just at the back of our house.

You're missing the point, as a 'local' you should know better than to post something that you do not know to be 100% true on a site as large as PH , especially if it's something as important as fatalities.

There has to be 100 false fatality reports to every genuine one at the ring. A bike falls off its stand somewhere and next thing we're hearing 8 riders caught fire and were run over by a tank.

It doesn't help.

What about this other thread, I don't doubt the one that happened outside your house but were there really 3 more fatal bike accidents in the area?

If the local it news is to be believed YES, there were.The point being that it was nothing to do with the ring, just that bikers seem to be riding a lot faster now.It was reported that all of those accidents were caused by too higher speeds.
How long before the whole place becomes infested with local plod/poxy speed cameras etal-thus fking it up for everyone else who lives here full time!!

In other news, grass is green, sky is blue and bikers come from all over Europe to ride the 'ring and surrounding roads far too fast. God Bless the ADAC and their magic yellow whirly-birds. Saved me once and many of my acquaintances too!

Shamefully, I crashed on the road like a total muppet. Real men crash on the 'Ring.



I've only lived here full-time since end of '07, but if anything I'd say there are LESS sportsbikes here now than 2004-2010. Or I notice them less. Or I care less.

I've had two head-on moments with UK-plated cars on the wrong side of the road in the last 7 days (Honda Civic in Adenau, Blue TVR outside the ED tankstelle) but it's just par-for-the-course here. Not worth starting a thread for, IMO, as everybody knows that we drive on the right here. They just keep forgetting.
