Wife and I have been to both Aruba and Grenada, albeit some time ago.

Aruba: make sure you go to the "low rise" area (it's central west part of the island) rather than the "high rise area" (it's north and west part of the island). The former is essentially where Europeans go and is respectfully quiet whereas the latter is where there are large chain hotels with predominately Americans there, and they are also very much busier. We stayed at the Bucutti Beach Resort and if we went back to Aruba we'd definitely stay there again. Restaurants are excellent..can recommend Madame Jeanette's. When we went there was no direct flights from the UK to Aruba so we went via Amsterdam. KLM had a flight to Peru which stopped at Aruba to refuel and maybe a dozen peeps got off there.

Grenada: very much more "Caribbean" than Aruba. Probably more lively too. Good choice of restaurants. We stayed at the Calabash Hotel which was different in a positive way and really excellent. Has it's own dive facilities if you're into that. Grenada is quite mountainous so a bit difficult to visit the central areas and not really much to see there. Do take the (expensive) day trip to Union Island and spend the day on a schooner travelling various islands; this was an unforgettable day for us (although we did this when we were in St. Lucia it can be done from Grenada).

Which do we prefer? Difficult choice but we think Aruba has the edge. Not much difference if you just wish to do is chill out. Both the hotels had large quiet beaches which suited us perfectly.

We went is September on both occasions. That's at the start of the hurricane season but Aruba is usually too far south to be troubled by them.

The diving in Grenada was great when I went in December a few years ago.

An island tour is also worth doing to see the sights / chocolate farm / rum distillery.
