The 'No to the EU' campaign
Discussion
Who will lead it and what resources will they have?
The big guns - the PM, the government, the Labour party, the fringe parties (Greens, Lib Dems, SNP, Plaid Cymru, etc) , the CBI, big business, the banks, etc, etc, will be for staying in tne EU.
So who is left to speak for the Independent Britain campaign? Just Farage?

We should get the right deal or get out. The right deal will be virtually impossible.

That's quite a list of divisive entities to lead a campaign. They're possibly better off without one figurehead.Listening to the radio this morning, about Cameron's Euro trip today, my concern is that all the 'renegotiation' effort is being put into the headline grabbing 'immigrant stole my benefits' stuff.
Whilst this may, or may not, be an issue, it's a relatively recent one and not one which I think is costing us dear. It's decades of paying into a club in exchange for legislation we don't need (but implement most officiously), which is seriously damaging UK businesses operating solely in the UK.
I'm not strongly in either camp - I probably would be had we joined the Euro - but do worry that this pre-referendum period will be addressing the scare-mongering fluff in order to get a 'Stay in' result, and nothing will really have changed.

I can't be the only one who reads Business for Britain and instantly draws a parallel to the woefully shambolic SNP mouth piece Business for Scotland.
Hopefully it isn't a sign of things to come

This question was discussed at the EU Referendum site recently by Richard North, if you are not familiar with his blog and are interested in the facts around the EU rather than what the media and politicians and business says, then I'd recommend it to you. UKIP are regularly pulled to pieces for simply not having a clue about how to withdraw from the EU with risks mitigated . His site is an eye opener! No one knows what Dave's ideas on renegotiation are, mainly because he doesn't know and wouldn't say if he did. He is clearly not getting anywhere on immigration that would be meaningful in any way, so won't be setting out anything of worth on this because as we've seen this week, he'll fail spectacularly.
He'll come back waving a bit of paper and saying this is a good deal and what he set out to achieve. At best it would be able to be spun just enough to persuade enough to stay in. At worst it will be near meaningless and simply a minor delay or freeze until a yes vote to their mind gives them the green light to do whatever they like.
The scaremongering from the pro in side is going to be huge, and probably from the same people who did the same when they were very pro the UK joining the Euro and warning of the economic doom and millions of lost jobs that never materialised and who lecture on scaremongering from the likes of Ukip, but who don't mind indulging in their own if it fits their views.

Spot on. They were wrong then and they are probably wrong now. Probably wrong is good enough to sow the seeds of worry though and that will result in a vote for more of the same. People fear change especially if things are going ok. Look at the rest of Europe... they are like frogs in a pot slowly being boiled alive but too scared to jump.Edited by anonymous-user on Friday 22 May 23:56

You mean the CBI. Those clowns are wrong about pretty much everything. The pro-EU campaign will be massively financed by big business & (illegally) the EU itself, amongst others. In the 1975 referendum it outspent the opposition by something of the order of 14 to 1. If anything they'll beat that this time round.
not the bank of england http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32856698 mistake my arse.

The BOE refers to 'economic effects of leaving'The BBC translates this to 'financial risks of leaving'
A subtle yet significant spin.

Well really. What a load of old tosh. Is this what you lot are confined to now that the UKIP - The Future thread has died in the womb? The BBC translates this to 'financial risks of leaving'

We're in the EU. The BoE would hardly be about to research the economic effects of staying, would they?
