Totally new to all of this, went to look at helmets today and found an agv helmet that I really liked, unfortunately they didn't have it quite in the right size, but I'm in no rush and the shop can order one in.
Before I purchase it, is Agv a reasonably decent and safe helmet? It's the agv horizon stamina I was looking at.

With regards to clothing I've heard that you should buy around 1-2 inches bigger than your chest size to allow for clothing underneath, would this be about right?

Agv are fine

If it's leathers they want to be tight if not the armour can. Move in an accident and that's ni use.

You should probably try some gear on in a shop to get an idea of what sort of size you are. It needs to be tight enough so that the armour won't move if you come off, but not so tight that you can't move / breathe properly. Likewise for helmets, probably best to try some on as helmet fit is a very personal thing. It should press onto your cheeks and drag your face a bit of if you twist the helmet, and you should not be able to pull it off once it's fastened - in fact you should have very little movement in it at all.

However, a properly fitting helmet in terms of being snug and secure is not the whole picture, as you can have a properly fitted helmet that is just uncomfortable. Hence some people saying they have an "Arai head" or a "Shoei head". The salesmen in the shop will tell you this sort of thing though.

No luck with the helmet, everywhere is out of stock of the size I need! Supplier has discontinued it too. I've found the following one, are HJC any good? I've not heard of them before.

And yes, the clothing would be a leather suit, so seems I'd need it as close to my chest size as poss as realistically wouldn't be wearing much underneath apart from a t-shirt.
