After umm'ing and aah'ing too much I missed out on the good Golf R deals last year.

Now that there are good deals on the estate I'm once again tempted. Most of the magazine reviews are cars fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control. When I got a quote from Freedom to include that along with reverse camera and high beam assist, their 9+23 deal over 2 years goes from £212 per month to £240 per month and I think the majority of that cost would be the DCC.

So my question is how firm is the ride without DCC? As a comparison I had a BMW 330D F30 until an unfortunate incident. It was the M Sport and I did find that ride just a bit too harsh.

Cheers.

My non DCC is fine on even the roads of Sheffield. On 18s they are fine without dcc. Not harsh at all.
I spent extra on paint, 5 doors and dsg. Sometimes I get a bit peeved with DSG but that's probably cos I haven't yet mastered it. It sometimes does things that annoy, especially in race and 'S' mode. But the sounds are better in dsg.

FWIW I'd consider going with their 3+23 option.

Ian - I had an e92 BMW 335d on 19's (M Sport) and I found the ride very firm and 'crashy'. I found the e46's I had quite similar (all M Sport).

In comparison, I find the ride on my Golf R on 18's without DCC much nicer than the BMW.

I'd also recommend going for the lowest upfront payment to protect yourself of too much loss in case the car was stolen.

Thanks for all your replies - really appreciated.

Gazzah - the estate is only available with DSG so not a choice I have to make and have had two Golfs and a Scirocco in the past all with DSG and quite happy with it. Haven't actually decided if I'm going to choose a different (at cost) colour.

Great to get the BMW comparison servantleader. Sounds as if keeping standard suspension should be ok. Thanks (and to Andrew) for the suggestion on changing the initial payment.

I've ordered an R estate through stable with lapiz and DCC. I had a GTI mk7 previously and the DCC setup was very good and there's a similar system fitted to my M5 which I use a lot so it was worth the £600 (slightly discounted), it added to the lease for me. I just know if I didn't and with being tied to the car for 2 years, there would be times when I would definitely have wanted it. Do the man maths and break it down into monthly payments to make it easier to swallow lol.

You weren't supposed to say that scoobyc :-)

With a handle like that I guess you had Imprezas?

Lol, yep, 5 I think, they used to be good for the local weather but have sadly fallen out of favour with me with the newer stuff:-(
