Found this box in the rear arm rest of the 928. Look like an SCSI connector going into the back but no obvious explanation for it being there! Have googled the serial number and the part number but to no avail.

Anyone who's got any ideas gimme a shout...

Can you not trace where any wires go to from it?

Man up, get the chuffing lid off, and get us some decent photographs. This IS PH after all!

This. A picture of the connector end might also be useful, as would tracing where the wiring goes.

The part number comes up as a mid-90s CD changer, which it does look like, would make sense in an arm rest, and might have a SCSI connection - but surely you would have looked at it closely enough to have spotted that?

The mod strike-off label is a bit suspicious, don't really see that on commercial items.

The connections on the other side would give the must clues.

Hang on, I've enlarged it and can make out some letters on the label...

Looks like a 'G'

And a 'C'

And an 'A'

No, hang on, it's an 'H'

And a....'Q'

Oh!

Somewhat unlikely for a CD changer to have a hand written part/serial number and a mod record though.

The handwritten bit I agree suggests small production run bespoke electronics IME, but who knows.

By mod record I assume you mean the label on the left of that. I've seen similar on all sorts of mass produced stuff although they might have mostly been production date calendars.
