Good morning all,

It seems I am guilty of breaking the forum rules, in putting up a thread for a wanted Cayman R. And so my thread has been removed. So I thought I would start another one, this time from a slightly different angle.

Obviously I am after one, and would be interested in hearing from any PH members who own them. But just as importantly, I'm very interested in any info and advice current R owners may have when it comes to finding the right car. I'm pretty set on getting a manual with bucket seats, as I think this best reflects the cars intentions.

So all this chat about how many R's there are out there, and in what colours got me thinking....!

So I've just been onto howmanyleft.co.uk to see how many cars were registered in the UK.

According to the site, and looking at the new registrations data for each model, it comes up with the following info:

Cayman R (Manual)

2011 - 74
2012 - 41
Total - 115

Cayman R S-A (PDK)

2011 - 83
2012 - 58
Total - 141

Assuming this is accurate. Which I believe it is, as it draws it's data directly from the DVLA. A total of 256 Cayman R models were registered in the UK in 2011/12. With the split being fairly even, but slightly favoring the PDK cars.

Does this sound right to those of you in the know?
115 manual cars, with an unknown amount ordered with the standard fit bucket seats. Now all I need is for one to come up for sale in the next week or so, at the right money!biggrin

Thanks in advance chaps, and happy motoring!

I think that is probably very accurate.

As said, there is only one entry for the R, not like other cars/models where there are many many entries for the same car, just worded differently.

I wouldn't buy one which didn't have a manual stick, buckets, PSE, or the spyder wheels. But that's just my opinion. The perfect car popped up for me and I went for it without hesitation. It's such an awesome machine.

Other options aren't too expensive should you find a great car with all of the above and still desire something else.

I think there must be only about 40 or even less cars if you have the spec people seem to go for above

manual, spyder wheels, buckets and Pse.

I have to have leather in a porker, it's all a bit plastic without, and if manual the SS is a must have but an easy retro fit circa £300.

but add leather and you might be down to 20 cars made with all the above as well ! I don't even think I have seen a car for sale for a while with the "desired spec", OPC only seem to get PDK trade in's.

So it's a long waiting game or you decide what you can do with out, My car will prob be for sale but not for 6 months still.
I am sure a few will pop up when some owners get their GT4's.

This is just a figment of your imagination, unless you can prove that these sell quicker, for more money. The fact is you can't and it's hilarious (but a credit to your persistence) that you've managed to persuade a load of sheep that it's the case!

I avoided buying a car without sports chrono, navigation, bucket seats. You could wait a while to tick every box.

Also i went PDK for my own reason, but have to say its bloody good to use and there are normal, sport and sport plus settings, plus paddles, so plenty of options to make it a great drive.

Looks like 911Virgin have a car with the right spec. Manual, buckets, spyder alloys, PSE. Low mileage too! In your shoes, I'd take that one!

It doesn't matter how many times you ask this question, the answer is still yes!

I think buckets and spyder wheels is definitely desired spec, it's nearly 10k to retrofit the parts of not and it kind makes the R more unique, turbo wheels and normal seats is just dull IMO.

But it's just your opinion, the same as it is with MrD! Sales of secondhand Rs and Spyders doesn't bear your theory out, unless you can prove differently. As far as I can tell, they all sell for a similar price, regardless of spec.

Completely agree. I took somebody out in the R last weekend and he didn't want a manual, he wanted PDK, I think he would have liked buckets, but PSE and wheels wouldn't have been a priority. So it's no wonder that prices for these cars are fairly consistent.

I didn't know you couldn't post a wanted thread either and had been intending too for a while, so glad you got in trouble first wink
Guess it's to stop 'flipping' dealers from snapping up cars to sell on.
I agree with some on here that buckets and spider wheels are a must have or you might as well get a normal 'S' imo. Had also considered manual as imperative but now feel I need to consider Pdk too.

Still after a red one if someone's selling! Money waiting to be spent smile. Though also finding myself looking at Aston vantage v8's too now.

Depends on what you want of course. I had a go in a V8 vantage a few years ago. I had an E92 M3 at the time. Other than the looks, the M3 was the better car and needless to say from a driving perspective the CR is night and day better than either.

You only have to ask him why he still has his Spyder, which I might add is NOT the so called desired spec and did not sell when he put it up for sale at the manual , bucket seat, Spyder wheel rate !

Cars with the big 4 sell fast, that's plain to see, but there is a buyer for every car at the right price.

THere is even wanted adds for R and Spyders with the big 4.
I am not saying my cars are the desired spec, they are what I wanted but then I don't want to sell mine.
Selling a car with no radio is a very ltd market.

Again OPC only ever get PDK cars hanging about, manuals sell very fast.

The 2 R's and 1 Spyder for sale ATM are all automatics.

It's certainly true that PDKs hang about, there where quite a few at dealers when I was looking that had been for sale for while, whilst I wanted a manual and had to move quick whenever they came up for sale.

What on earth are you talking about, you deluded fool? I have never had my Spyder up for sale.

I've come across some idiots on the internet, but you take the biscuit!
