Shipping a TVR to New Zealand for a driving holiday
Discussion
Mate of mine took E Type for classic rally and holiday last year. Really I mean Really strict on cleaning the car before even letting into container for shipment. After all this they a fab time, but on the cars return, when they went to collect ,it was impounded for x Ray to look for drugs ( bang out of order if you know the guy!) . .anyway it's worth the effort, but a load of hassle.....have a great time
Hi...physically shipping it wont be a problem...circa 1700 pound each way. The problem will be getting it registered and warranted for the road. Race cars get a special exemption for track use, but you cant get a temp road permit. TVR's can only be registered via Special Interest Vehicle (SIV) which you cant do as a non-resident....so short answer, pretty sure you cant do it.
However, thinking out of the square...buy 1 here and sell it after...there are a couple of Chimaeras that are on an open registration...check out www.trademe.co.nz
We are organising a TVR South Island drive for the first week of November.
PM me if you want any more details.

I've seen cars shipped over from the USA for a local event - Americana, in New Plymouth, but not sure who you could approach to find out more - there is a guy in Auckland I believe (Jim Gamsby) who has a wealth of knowledge about importing TVRs. Also try posting in the NZ forum, I think there is a guy called Dan who knows a think or 2 about the Land Transport agency. A Google with respect to Targa New Zealand might show if people bring cars in for that.
