Sad weekend over here in the Nurburgring. Not twenty metres away from our house yesterday a biker hit a car carrying three kiddies (no news on them yet but the bike and rider jumped the armco and ploughed through some trees,40minutes worth of resuscitation couldn't save him because his injuries were so severe.Heli Med was sent away empty because there was no chance of survival.
Mean while three otherr bikers saddly also died in the area, all at highspeed accidents.
How can this carnage be stopped before the local polizie become heavily involved with thier presence on some of the best roads in Germany?
Do bikers now feel immortal because of thier leathers or is it that some simply cannot think as fast as thier bikes performance.?
Before anyone suggests it, Im no goody goody no it all, simply some one who appreciates the roads as they are and doesn't want the few wrecking it for everyone else.

This is an interesting take on a well-worn thread. Have you thought about getting a bike and joining the fun?

Sounds very unfortunate for all involved.

Several problems with bikes as I see it:
1) They attract adrenaline seekers - these people may not always make the best judgement calls
2) Bikes accelerate incredibly well, but braking is not so good
3) Bikes are not forgiving of mistakes, unlike a car

Unfortunately, accidents happen. I'm sure just as many cars crash on those good roads in Germany which never make the news because airbags and crumple zones keep the people involved alive to crash another day.

Don't think there is any biker anywhere that doesn't feel vulnerable irrespective of what gear they have on, but as I said, it's easy to get caught up in the rush.

Love riding nonetheless, just try to keep it sensible.

For sure with no cage around us bikers are exposed therefore a fatality is more probable but its not just bikers who take risks. Just a few months ago around here a young lad and three of his class mate were tragically killed in the car they were travelling in. I'm not about to proportion blame in this incident but another motorist was caught up in it innocently too. Families left devastated. Cars, bike, wagon drivers what ever the mode of transport, we all know the risks and most get by fine.

Point 3 and the paragraph below it are the answer .
Cars have many more crashes , minor and major , you just get away with it in a car .
A damaged wing on a car is s broken leg etc on a bike

It's the nature of the vehicle

What is unfortunate is the way bike accidents are magnified by the press to such a degree . The only time car drivers really get grief is if they are crashing an expensive car or kill children in my experience.

Been there-done that etc.
Car crashes get just as much attention over here, just not so many have happened;)
Half term? Is that for the riders?
Love speed as much as if not more than most, its why I live where I live and do what I do.Its a risk yes, but none taken without calculation.
Didn't realise this to be a "well worn" subject, althoigh judging by the way a lot ride I suppose it would be.
Local plod will be looking into ways of slowing everyone down very soon at this rate.Anyone else for a nice leisurely ride in the park?

I thought it had become pretty much accepted that bikers travel above speed limits and are immune from any noise regulations.
I rode flat out as a teenager, loved the noise I made thinking everyone else thought I was cool, that is natural Narcissism at work before our frontal lobes develop , I also sought bigger and better thrills which is part of human nature. I lost 3 good mates on bikes.
I eventually found bikes can also be enjoyed with consideration for others and within the laws. I do see a lot of bikers refusing to grow up or become socially conscious, this causes prejudice. Some people will argue bikers need to be selfish to survive. There's definitely a high percentage of bad attitudes, ignorance and general naivety. 'Loud pipes save lives' but dressing in black? what a load of bks. If you seek attention you'll get it, in the form of law changes and rights being taken away.

Since the OP doesn't look like correcting it I'll point out that no evidence was ever provided for the 3 additional fatalities.

(per the thread in track days)

I doubt the police are on the verge of any overreaction. Things are much as they have been for quite a while. I do agree with the sentiment that its a shame a lot of tourists drive/ride like inconsiderate pricks on the local roads and in the villages. Policing is surprisingly light given how easily they could be grabbing speeders (er everyone) in lots of places.
