What 4 seat super(-ish)car? - £20k

I know I'm a bit of a Merc fanboy but £19k for a C63 AMG saloon, gives you 4 doors, plenty of room in there for the family, less than 50k miles on an 11 plate, and that one is nearly fully loaded and in really good condition, the only options that aren't specced are pretty niche.

It's got 6 DVD multichanger, sat nav, electricly adjustable heated leather seats, electric sunroof, xenons even got sunblinds for the kids. For that money I don't think you'll get a nicer place to be whilst still running a RWD 6.2 V8 pulling over 450bhp and 0-60 in less than 5secs.

Fair enough the MPG is in the 20s and thr running costs aren't the same as driving a 1 litre econobox but all that performance and the optional extras on a sub-50k milage and only 2 owners is a bargain.

Again though, too big and practical. Doesn't look special enough to me either, its still a 4 door saloon.

Ah I thought you were looking for practicality for the kids. Have a look at a 2 door coupe in black with the 19" black AMG alloys and you'll have a mean looking car.

I effectively want a car that looks like a 2 seater but what actually has seats for 4, or what I should have just said was a 2+2.

The 2 door C63 may look mean, and I drove a Black series C63 once which is possibly one of the best cars Ive ever driven. But its still a big saloon car.

OK, I know you don't like the porkers but you have only mentioned the 996. What about slight budget creep to a 997??

Infinitely better looking than the 996 IMHO and with an interior from this millennium at least.
2 yr 20k service intervals and most of the depreciation done.
They are obviously common as muck in London but Yorkshire? Perhaps a little less so.

He's only a bit over I would say, with only 22k miles it's going to be 5 figures.....
Supply and demand is king here as always, these (and 147's) are becoming quite sought after and there aren't many about.

But back to the OP, is age really not a factor? Anything from 1970 onwards, so long as it is stylish, sleek and 2 doors max?
Is speed important, as older stuff tends not to be too good here in general.
If so, how about a Citroen SM, can you get one of them for 20k?

I can see them being worth a lot more than some of the stuff already mentioned and it's a million times better looking than that ghastly mauve Porsche

I had the same dilemma. Had a rapid but terminally dull TTS - thought about a 997 , but went for a Bentley Continental GT. You'll need to push the budget slightly, but certainly special enough and definitely fast enough. Heaps of space for the kids...but try to ignore the mpg

BMW don't make supercars... even 'ish' All dependent on what you class as 'supercar' of course.... Audi R8? maybe... but 4 seaters? Mass produced cars are getting quicker and quicker.. look at the Golf R as a fine example... quicker performance than any (I'm guessing here) supercars other than the 100k plus variety... But it's just a Golf... fecking quick no question... Pretty much anything will do 0-60 in under 4 seconds if you throw enough money at it, and lets face it, cars that quick hit the NSL on dual carriageways in second gear... you have to wonder why you need 5 or 6 gears.. (yes I know its so you can cruise with good/decent/acceptable fuel economy).

Clearly, the only seriously quick 'supercar' for £20K that has four seats is a TVR... and if you disagree you've obviously never driven one

Hardly a 'supercar', but I went from a TVR to this: Rare, 400 bhp, V8 dragster soundtrack, Corvette C6 engine, Dodge Viper gearbox, Hydratrak LSD, two proper rear seats, 170+ mph, cupholders. £10-15k, reliable, and you won't see another on the road for months.

I agree with others that a Cerb's a good shout, you only live once!

Ah, that explains it I knew it was top end but I thought it was to do with the oil pressure being fine at the front cam bearing but almost nothing by the rear. It's a very long time since I've read the speed six forum though!

I'm aware that most don't have factory suspension anymore, mine has Gaz golds and they're great, but I was more indicating that the speed six has a number of differences and suspension was just an example, I believe they have a different steering rack and smaller brakes also.

I see at least one a day, admittedly not all HSV, but I suppose it depends what country you live in! I love how raw they feel to drive, I just don't think you get that with European cars, they're more refined but that's not necessarily a good thing or what everyone is looking for. My reservations about it would be that it is just a development of the VT which is really too old to be new, but too new to be retro, it's a nice looking car, but not supercar good. Personally I would far rather have a VE HSV Commodore with the LS3 engine, the interior is hugely improved and feels much more modern, it's nicer to drive too and the power is just immense.

I'd have to say as mentioned earlier chuck another 10k at the problem and get a Maserati Granturismo.

Gorgeous, 2 seater with space in the back. Fairly reliable too. A lot get used as daily drivers.
