The M Sport badge invasion
Discussion
Is it me, does it annoy you seeing an m badge knowing it's not an m3/m4 etc?
I've seen a 320d in Woking with a random m badge stuck on kidney grill which was terrible.
Then seen a new convertible, which was an m in drag- given it had only 2 exhausts.
I just don't understand why you would do it. If people know what an m is and can tell/appreciate it they will know it's a fraud or an m in drag- and for everyone else they won't even care.
I prefer model deletion that I did on my 320d E90, and now have done same on my z4 35i etc - but I would love the M badge, when I can buy a nice M - not an m sport.

Lol I know exactly what you mean winds me up too being an M5 owner it frustrates me a great deal!! Someone I know recently bought a 520D M sport F10 with just an M badge on the back and put black kidney grills on the front with the M colour stickers on the grill. Made the car look really cheap tbh, it's a BMW the ultimate driving machine not a toy from Model Zone where you put stickers and badges on it... On top of that he had the cheek to say to me it's a beast... An said my M5 was too bumpy.... :rolf:

There are so many around it's quite funny. Call me sad but I try to get pictures when I can.

I was gutted to find M badges on the wings of my M135i when I picked it up. I'm loathe to have them removed though due to the hassle and the chance of imperfect paint. I wanted my car de-badged too, but the missus wanted the M135i badge to stay.
People actually going out and sticking M3 etc badges on the back of their cars really doesn't bother me. They're only kidding themselves. The only people who notice are us lot and it doesn't matter anyhow.
Of course, in Italy, if a car purports to be something it's not, they crush it.

That's quite amusing as "model deletion" is essentially the same thing as sticking an M badge on a car that's not an M car. Both actions are trying to tell the onlooker that the car is something it's not.I've seen a 320d in Woking with a random m badge stuck on kidney grill which was terrible.

And since I'm on the subject of the removal of badges I think that the reverse snobbery of removing the M badge from an M car is worse than sticking an M badge on a non-M car. It seems that everyone who has done it has to subsequently boast about it. Is having a de-badged M car the ultimate in M ownership?
Model deletion is the opposite, I don't want people knowing what I've got but people in the know can tell what car you have.
It also looks a lot better, the Z4 with s drive emblazoned on the side is not nice to look at, it's like reading a bmw model magna carta.
In both instance, the 320d could've been mistaken for a 318,316 as it has a single pipe etc., refreshed model of E90.
The z4 35i could be mistaken for a 35is to the dumb, but they didn't produce those in 2009 so seeing the pipes either side means it has to be a 35i.
I am not trying to masquerade my car by sticking something on it, that it's not. Isn't it better to be elusive? Removing a badge doesn't mean you're pretending to be anything, shoving one on is.
Though if I had a proper M car, then I would keep the badges as I've earnt it

This has been done to death on here-see also the mis badging thread on GG. As has been said, the M badge has not just been saved for M cars. Think BMW (UK) themselves are partly to blame given how much they have pushed M sport.
+1I have to say I do de-badge most of my cars but its purely because I think it makes the rear of the car look a lot cleaner.

You don't have to read it...
As I said on the other thread when someone else made the same comment, I just can't help it.It's like watching the David Brent character in The Office. Some of the bragging (and humble bragging in the debadged cases) in the posts is so excruciating I can't help but read them. But you can only watch the Office so many times before it gets old and that's where we are with the M badge threads.
