The pipe tobacco thread.
Discussion
I've recently bought my first pipe - reading my post about it in the cigar thread is probably what inspired this thread. As they're both fairly niche subjects, I wonder if this might do better if merged with the cigar thread, as that already has a luxury tobacco element going in it.
Either way, I bought myself a nice Peterson flame grained pipe the other day and started breaking it in with some vanilla and cherry tobacco. I only smoke at my local lounge, so it's not a regular thing for me, but I love smoking it - I had a feeling I would, as it's a cheap time killer between cigars, it tastes and smells great and gives an amazing draw.

I hope non of you go out in public smoking your pipe. You don't want to be confused with Menthalsarcassm, or whatever Matt777 is called.
I saw a guy, about late 20's early 30's in a BMW 3 series convertible smoking a pipe. He looked like an utter bell end.
Saying all that. I do think pipe smoking is a dying art form, or everyone is doing behind closed doors, and I intend to take it up when I'm in my mybrainhurts age. Just like my grandad and his grandad before him and his grandad before him. They didn't have cancer or anything in fact they all died in subsequent bus crashes. So did all their passengers.
I'm here all week. Try the veil.

I must admit I used to quite like the smell when I was younger and people smoked pipes, does seem to be a dying habit though.
Here is a picture of my pipe, it's a Peterson 80s, with flame grain briar and a orange / yellow stem. Sterling silver band and a "P" inlaid into the stem.
I've only just started breaking it in, Peterson pipes are pre-carbonised inside the bowl, which helps the cake to adhere and protects the wood during break in, apparently. It's my first pipe, not the cheapest on the shelf but it called to me more than any of the others - and if you're buying a smoking apparatus, an item for which there is no use but unhealthy pleasure, it should be something you find aesthetically pleasing.

My uncle used to smoke a pipe (that's not the reason it's past tense) and it did smell quite nice. A chap at my first job used to smoke Grand Mehari cigars (he might still do so, I haven't seen him for years!) outside the front door and the smell was lovely. If I could burn 'em like incense I'd be tempted to.Had a bash about 30 years ago, Eronmore tobacco (sp) was the choice .
We still have the tobacconist in our town ,must have thousands of different flavours as well as dozens of hand rolling tobaccos .
He does a lot of export ,importing of cigars, which must be keeping him going.
Don't see many nowadays.

Slightly O/T it appears Mastodon and I share a smoking lounge. I shall keep an eye out for the pipe and introduce myself accordingly!
I didn't give you much to go on with that picture, but I'm smoking at a cigar lounge in Newcastle - if you're up this way then you must be smoking at the same place as it's pretty much the only one north of Manchester! If you're in and you see me or my lurid Peterson, please introduce yourself! The place gets a great crowd and I've not yet met anyone in there was not funny or interesting and worth talking to.
