Announcement just released (well I've just received it anyway, date must be retrospective):

"Power's Performance would like to announce that as of 23rd April 2015 in order to not invalidate a Power's Performance engine warranty, service work performed on a Power's Performance rebuilt or upgraded warrantied engine must be carried out by an approved Power's Performance engine service agent. Any work carried out on a Power's Performance warrantied engine by an unauthorised engine service agent will immediately invalidate any remaining Power's Performance engine warranty.

The reason for this is that only Power's Performance quality approved parts may be used in the servicing of Power's Performance rebuilt and upgraded warrantied engines, as this helps to guarantee the life, performance and integrity of the engine. Parts supplied from any other source are not approved by Power's Performance. Unfortunately as members of the TVR Parts Network are no longer able to purchase parts from Power's Performance and subsequently no longer able to use Power's Performance approved parts in their engine servicing work, it necessarily follows that members of the TVR Parts Network are not approved to carry out Power's Performance warrantied engine service work.

For an up to date list of approved Power's Performance engine service agents, call Dom at Power's Performance on 024 7636 6177 or email dom@powersperformance.co.uk"

Await the debate on that one !

Mere speculation, but I guess that Dom didn't like the terms of the agreement with TVR and that the agreement with TVR stops their approved suppliers buying from a non approved source.

He is clearly going his own way and wish him luck. I hope that a lot of the other specialists keep independent too as there is a risk of prices for parts going through the roof if there is only one or two sources.

Interesting that Str8SIX and TrackVRoad will no longer be supplied parts by Power Performance.

had been something missing on post no 1 :

"Powers Performance would like to address the recent formation of the TVR Network and clarify our position regarding the maintenance of our engines.

In light of the growing TVR Network we now find ourselves unable to rely on many of the UK Service centers with the servicing and maintenance of our warrantied engines. We can no longer ensure the correct specification oils, shims, and other service parts are being supplied. Unfortunately this forces us to ensure all warrantied engines are returned to Powers Performance for warrantied servicing.

For more information or questions, please contact Dom directly at Powers Performance."

This will need to be sorted quickly, a split like this isn't good for anyone.

Not good news for those who have had a rebuild and live hundreds of miles away. frown

What if the customers bought the service parts themselves, directly from Powers, to be used by the specialist to service the car?

Not sure what the Network agreements say on customer furnished parts but even if it isn't covered off I suspect the new owners would use it as a lever against signed up service centres at renewal time.

I'm presuming they will still allow independents who didn't sign up like HHC to carry on as warranty service locations, last line does suggest Dom agreeing to that.

You can't blame Dom though; how could he offer a warranty on an engine when he has no idea of the origin of the spares used to service it. All the risk would be his.

If I recall correctly, those signing up to the TVR parts network are prevented from buying spares from anywhere outside of said network.

Not without consent from both parties... Here's what the warranty says:

"Where you elect, or at any time have the vehicle serviced by a Powers Performance Authorised Dealer, the terms of this warranty cover will apply excepting the 100K Cover. Where you elect, or at any time have the vehicle serviced by a third party other than a Powers Performance Authorised Dealer, this warranty will automatically be void."

All it seems Dom is doing is removing some members from the "Authorised Dealer" network, so he's not actually changing the warranty itself.

Most car manufacturer warranties specify that to remain within the warranty terms and conditions, then the car should be returned to the dealer for repair and servicing. However, to comply with EU law, it is also perfectly acceptable to use parts of the same or superior quality. This is why, if you read the handbook for your Eurobox, it only recommends that the car is serviced by the dealer.
Taken at face value, from the quotes written here, it is unlawful to insist that the supplier only may service the car if the conditions as to parts quality is met e.g. you change the oil and filter on your warrantied engine using the same spec oil, say 10/40 semi synthetic using a big name brand such as Castrol, and fitting a Bosch oil filter, then there is no way that this can interfere with the warranty.
Also, in good aftermarket outlets, the various manufacturers of oil filters etc will display signs stating that their parts match or exceed the specification of the original part.

IMO this is part of a power (pun intended) struggle within the new set up. In another thread recently, Dom himself said there were problems with Chinese copy parts.

As my car has a Power's rebuilt engine just 1,500 miles ago, I shall watch this space with interest.

So essentially you will be held to ransom in terms of 'Power' parts, costs of servicing and ancillary work to maintain your warranty..frown

What parts make up a service.... plugs, oil, filters etc... Its Powers prerogative but obviously the new world dealers will surely be using adequate parts and materials.

But you can still use the authorised service agents. For example, I use Mat Smith and he is still one of these.

It would be interesting to know who all the authorised service agents currently are? No doubt there will be a tipping point when they will prefer to be part of the new TVR network..
