The three time RAC Rally winner (60-62) and two time Monte Carlo Rally winner (62-63) Erik "Carlsson på taket/Carlsson on the roof" Carlsson has died at the age of 86.

Drive on man.

How sad. He was on an episode of "For the love of cars" just the other day.

These old school rally chaps must have had bks made of steel, I know it's still crazy these days, but back in the bad old days, driving tin cans like that? Something else.

Rest in peace! beer

Very sad day.
I had the pleasure to hear him speak about his rallying exploits in Saab's home town of Trolhattan 18 years ago.
He was "Mr Saab".
Legend.
Rest in Peace Erik.

Actually driving the wheels off that, not a sniff of fear in his eyes and total trust in the car. RIP.

When asked how he could drive flat-out over blind crests the reply was "well, the road must go somewhere".
I think he also said "Brakes? They only slow you down".

I'd totally missed this sad news.

I always wondered how the Carlssons decided who was going to drive on family outings. smile
