Some scumbag s tried to carjack my M135 last night in a public car park while me and my mate were in it. I escaped with a broken side window and some scratched paint by a crowbar as I drove away.

The police said it's fairly rare to take one that way but they wanted it as a getaway for a job.

My errors were to park in a far corner away from the door bangers and be facing inwards to the parking space stopping a straight forward getaway.

I've never really though of my car as a desirable getaway car (although 'some' people think of it as a junior supercar wink ) If you've got anything considered powerful 335, M3, 335D (mapped) etc don't take it for granted that you and it are safe when you are with the car.

I will park more carefully and be more observant of what is around in future.

The police said I should have given it to them and walked away but it never entered my head to do that, strange what adrenaline can do to you.

Be careful out there.

They were tooled up with crow bars and CS Spray and god knows what else.

Coventry. I don't live there but was up there with a mate going to the cinema to see Mad Max. It felt like we were in the film.

I always keep my doors locked but that doesn't do much against a crowbar, glad the buggers didn't succeed in getting yours and hope the repair isn't too costly

We had just literally just got in the car when they came out of nowhere and opened both doors and threatened us and pulling my mate out of the passenger seat. Even locking he doors wouldn't have stopped them smashing the windows to get in.

Such things are on the increase. Commuting work colleague at 7am pulled up to get a newspaper only to have a knife to his throat and demand for the keys. Car used in series of raids in B'ham area next couple of days.

For various reasons of convenience, I always try to park to facilitate an easy exit forwards, even when parking away form the Monster Truck 4x4 types and their special spacial awareness qualities. Invariably, that means mine is the only car placed to leave without the need to select reverse gear.

Keep 'em peeled even though chances of something like this happening are very slim to most folks. However, the OP is one of the most folks. Good advice to always keep in mind this sort of thing is a possibility even if a very remote one.

Sounds very scary OP, glad you're ok!

There's been quite a few reports of similar things on here recently, such as:

http://tinyurl.com/nslb4zl - Audi S3, also in Coventry, female driver attacked with baseball bat.

http://tinyurl.com/oq7btsy - Golf R stolen in Potters Bar.

Yes, Showcase.

Doors opened, threatened with crowbars, mate was pulled out of the car. I started the engine hoping I could select reverse quickly while expecting to get a face full of CS spray/crowbar, thankfully I did get reverse (manual box), backed out with the doors opened and started off forward and got a crowbar to drivers door window which smashed as I was driving and I drove off looking for my mate who was running down the car park. I picked him up and we left and called the police.

Lots of luck involved. Very glad I didn't watch the s driving off in my car.

As MGJohn said, vigilance in future.

Frightening incident.

I tend to eye any nearby people in late night carparks with significant suspicion, but if they were hidden as you approached your car there would be very little you could do pre-empt the attack.

I wonder what would have happened if - in trying to escape the attack - you had reversed into/over one of the thieving scum. Heat of the moment, not premeditated, not even intentional.

Given our wonderfully fecked-up justice system, I can probably guess.

Entirely in agreement with the content of the final two paragraphs. Our legal system has been parasitised to the extent that thieves and murderers have at least equal rights to their unfortunate victims. Nice little earners for some.

Only in Mug UK.

Given the violent nature of the attack the OP suffered, surely a self defence (defence) would be the order of the day? It would at home.

TBH I'd be pretty shaken by such an event, hope the OP is ok and can enjoy the weekend as best he can.

It was just kids messing about during half term wink

Self defence wouldn't really have helped against what they had, maybe a taser or pistol.

I can laugh about it now, but it's over a grand's worth of damage frown

I would be way, way more upset and angry if I didn't have the car.

My mate can dine out on the story for weeks!

I know it's a cliché, but it does feel like if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone.

I didn't mean "self defence" as in have a go at them, it was a comment around if you had run one of them over as was suggested earlier in an attempt to get away, in that "self defence" would have/could have been used as a defence in court.

Good to see you're taking it well!
