Well this car driver really needs to be taken to task - could have killed the cyclist quite easily.

people just need to learn to dive properly and be safe around cyclists as they really are vulnerable and car drivers are protected in metal boxes...

Friend of mine at uni did that. The car in question was a fully hi-vised police car!

They kindly gave him a lift to hospital...

If you look at your local accident stats you may be surprised how many collsions involve a stationary vehicle.
It that car had been moving there would have been no collision. The safest speed for a road isnt zero

I enjoy how nonchalant the people in the car were.

'Has someone just crashed into the back of me? '...yeah'

What's the bet that the cyclist paid for the damage to the car (I'd be surprised if there wasn't any)?

That was me also, doing my paper round in the 80s - head down, pedalling slowly into a headwind straight into the back of a parked up Mini.
Years ago there was a TV program called 'The Wide Awake Club' who had a certain catchphrase they used to sing. One day some mates and I were cycling through a busy town centre, for some reason he looks sideways and shouts "Weeeeeeere Wide Awake!"
Yeah, you guessed it, straight into the back of a car which had stopped in front of him hehe

The difference between us and the bloke in the clip is we learned not to do it at an early age.....

Yep. If he'd been redlining it in fifth, there would be zero chance of a cyclist crashing into the back of him.

This is pretty much why I thoroughly believe cyclists should have some sort of insurance.

And if it was a pedestrian, head down looking at their phone who walked into the car?

Over 100,000 cyclists do have insurance too.

Are we really comparing a pedestrian walking to a car vs a cyclist going into the back at 20-30 mph?

Also not sure where that random statistic has been pulled from.

Fat from random, there are over 100k british Cycling members, all with £10m third party liability insurance

If someone carrying a bag walks into your car because they were on their phone and scratches it what are you going to do?

Ouch. I am guessing he didn't opt to check the road ahead for some reason. Just good luck it wasn't a child or old lady crossing the road.

Ask them for £50 to fix it?
