Windows 10 upgrade notification
Discussion
I've not had this on two computers running Windows 7, but they do share a common trait, so that's probably sonething to do with it. Maybe blocking the checks, but all other updates are fine.
I'm in Oz though, I assume it's a worldwide thing rather than country specific?
How's it panning out? My bird has an Asus tablet/ laptop thing which uses touch screen. Seems married to Windows 8.1 pretty well. Worth her updating?
My folks back in the UK are running two desktops with Windows 7 and Vista I believe. I believe the 7 desktop has the notification showing.

I'm liking W10 on my laptop (upgraded from W7 just to see what the fuss is about), generally a good experience ... I've signed up for the upgrade on my W8.1 tablet but am unsure why - W8.1 runs pretty well, the interface is generally responsive and consistent and cannot figure out why I would bother running W10 on it.My folks back in the UK are running two desktops with Windows 7 and Vista I believe. I would leave a Win8.1 tablet alone. From what I've seen of the Win10 preview builds I am very tempted to leave my desktop on 8.1 too.My folks back in the UK are running two desktops with Windows 7 and Vista I believe. I believe the 7 desktop has the notification showing.

I don't know what's the most recent build you've used but they have improved markedly over the last month or so and I wouldn't go back to 8.1 now on a desktop. Unfortunately my Surface is away at the moment so I haven't had the chance to try any of the newer builds on that.Morningside said:
Nope. I have not got that
Read through this and check if you have the required update installedhttp://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-10-upgrade-no...
If the update is installed download the batch file from dropbox and run it. The first option fixed my 8.1 laptop.
You should be cautious about downloading random batch files from the net, but I did it anyway and it was fine.

Not everyone will get it today. There's a queueing system in place, so it will be spread over the coming weeks. I was pretty early to register (just as the registration system opened) but nothing has started downloading in the background yet.
Nothing has started for me either, and MSDN hasn't been updated to the release version. grumbledoak said:

Ditto. Gamma test.
Will it work on a mediocre machine or will I have to upgrade? Will it run on a machine that currently runs XP?
It is supposed to work on a phone with 512MB, so it should work on almost anything. That said, "drivers" as in "lack of" may stop play. Will it work on a mediocre machine or will I have to upgrade? Will it run on a machine that currently runs XP?
Will this be a downloadable file that I can burn to disc or put on USB, or will it be a file that has to be opened and installed as soon as its downloaded? I've no real intention of installing it anytime soon, but I would like it on disc or stick for when I am ready.
I'm keen to see how it is, but as I use the PC predominantly for gaming, I imagine a lot of games won't work with it yet, or I'll have peripherals that aren't optimised, so will wait until its been out a while before upgrading.

The upgrade for the laptop (W7) is downloading now. For anyone who doesn't want to wait, MS have issued ISO or USB format downloads
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/...
This link downloads a "creation tool" which asks what you want to do - USB/ISO and then downloads it.

You can also select "install on this PC", you don't need to crate a USB or IO installation.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/...
