Looking at buying an R32 GTR late next year, and they seem to have increased in price rather rapidly in the space of a few months!

Are they going to go up much more do we reckon? They're at 12-15k at the moment.

I was looking at a few this time last year from a well respected importer, cars that were 12-14k seem to be going for around 17-20k now. I'm not sure how much effect the market opening up to the USA has affected prices but they have certainly taken a jump this year.

According to the importer of my R33 prices are starting to go crazy for the R32's. I really really want to get one so expect them to rise massively knowing my luck wink

Very mixed prices, some 3.5 grade cars go for 550,000yen and some go for 650,000yen! But sadly they do seem to be creeping up! If i was you i would use a site that lets you keep an eye on what they sell for. I think i have seen one face book called jdm watch. That should give you a idea what car will fit in your price range, and how much they are going up in value.

The prices have gone up about 50% in the last 9 months.
I nearly bought one over the s15 as they were in the same price range.

It's partly because of the USA import laws; they can now legally import the early cars because they're 25 years old so a lot of American buyers are bidding on them too which is driving price up. I tried to get one when they were 9k but couldn't get reasonable insurance. Now I can afford to insure one but the prices are getting too high... Might have to end up settling for a R33 instead.

If you're interested in getting a R32, better do it soon frown

I'm budgeting 15k, and I hope that'll be enough next year!

Look at the way the R34 GTR has gone or indeed the older Skylines. They are an iconic car and numbers are dwindling.

If you can afford to tie your cash up in one, they would be a very, very safe place for it an you'll probably make a penny or two if you hold onto it.

I'm interested in the value of these. I've just been offered one as a straight swap on a car i'm selling (for 8k). It's advertised on the market for 8.5k although i've not seen it advertised in any of the places someone wanting a GTR would be looking.

It's a nice car, looks completely standard, has done 110km/70k miles so reasonable for the year. Only bad point is it'll need a rear arch replacing due to rust (which i'd do if I owned it), i've seen pictures of the underside and it looks nice, not a rotter so i'll assume that's the case.

Going by the talk on here i'd think it'd be worth more. I'm looking around and there aren't many under 10k but there is one from trader on ebay for 9k which is similar miles.

I'm unfamiliar with this market, if they are on the rise why hasn't this been snapped up? I'd assume at the age they are a standard one would be more desirable, but i'd personally rather modified, what does the market prefer? Can modified ones be imported to the US?

I guess what i'm asking is, is it likely to appreciate after a year of ownership?

The cost of ownership is likely to negate any rise in value. Especially if it needs a new clutch or cambelt etc.

It's a slightly later one. Can only be imported at 25 years old.

I don't think cost of ownership is an issue for me, I won't do many miles in it. Probably did 300 last year in the car i'm selling. Plus, I do all my own work so there is no labour to worry about. The car i've been offered is a 1992.

Do not touch anything from keighly/motorhub or whatever they are now called, bunch of asian shysters known to deal in hooky cars!! have a look on google for reviews, they used to be called keighly imports. Mainly import damaged cars and fixed here (badly) before reselling.

R32 will only go up in value tbh, some good cars out there still for around £9/10k, a lot of importers are starting to price them very keenly, but buying one in the uk will be cheaper and easier than importing imo.

Be careful when buying an R32.

A lot seem to have tired engines with the original ceramic turbos often letting go and causing damage especially when the new purchaser decides to up the boost slightly. This will be an engine rebuild.

Mine was deemed one of the better R32's, but I still spent around £6K plus getting the underside & arches sorted. People jack the cars up on the weak sills and this causes them to deform and split open letting water in.

Check everything thorougly. I have spent much more than £10K bringing mine up to scratch (I am a bit picky though!!!) and I am now having the engine rebuilt which will be well over £10K again. My project thread below.

The GTROC & gtr forum is good to pick up info.

I imported a R32 GTR for my hubby last year. I went through JDM Garage in Holsworthy. He sourced via an agent/trader in Japan. I had about 150 photo's emailed to me which practically photographed every inch of the car.... Collected in February and was pleased with the car when finally saw it in the flesh. The prices I was looking to pay in November last year would not be enough to buy the same car now. The Skyline market has definitely gone mad, both the 32 and 33 prices have shot up. I'd probably consider bringing the purchase forward as likely to get more for your money now than in 12months time.

Ps. We are now a 2 skyline household.... Hope you have deep pockets...lol
