Tried one of the new Q7s at the pre-launch events last month. We did a short road and off-road trip in both S-Line and SE versions.
Impressions were good, it was a nice quiet run. As we were in convoy we couldn't 'stretch' performance or handling at all. The ride (in dynamic) felt softer than my BMW (which also has VDC) but that doesn't mean it was too soft, more like something you ride in rather than drive.
The quality was similar to other £50k German cars and gadget count was high too.
Overall, a very nice car. Good choice

Sorry! Carp photos.
Another nice touch is the climate control buttons with display inside - have seen this done before but seems particularly nicely carried out here.
One minus point for the transmission tunnel intruding into foot space for centre, 2nd row occupant. other than thT, struggling for negatives at present...

No offence taken - my thoughts are that its not the type of car to buy if you're looking for a responsive, fun drive, more the sort to cover distances with family, and luggage or bikes and dog etc.
We are taking the younger kids on a longer drive in it tomorrow and Tuesday so looking forward to seeing how it copes with that - will post after.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. The colour was a bit of a lottery as the local Audi garage didn't have any samples or swatches for us to look at before we ordered - luckily, they had an A6 Avant in the showroom and Mrs BB said that she liked the colour which we knew from the Internet was going to be available on the Q7. Daytona Grey Pearl. (We did like the Sprint Blue but that was way too much extra).
Anyway, did a fair trip to Chessington and back over the past couple of days and even more impressed with the interior space, refinement, performance and economy:
The kids report far more room in the 2nd row than they had in the X5 and there's more space up front, too; there is barely any intrusion of noise or "fidget" in the ride on any of the road surfaces we have come across so far;.
As far as performance goes, it just effortlessly gathers pace at almost any speed: We were behind another vehicle on the motorway for a couple of miles and when he moved to the left, I gently accelerated to pass him and my wife said "do you realise what speed we're doing?" I had underestimated by about 20mph ! The (very nice) delivery driver, Peter, said he had made a similar mis-judgement on the way to us, and he delivers cars all the time. I think I may have to set an alert to avoid any points.
Economy - reset the trip computer for the journey and we averaged just under 40mpg on a mixture of motorway, A roads and a couple of traffic jams which I thought was excellent, again, much better than the X5.
One extra which we probably should have added is keyless access - not standard despite having keyless start. Having got used to having this on the X5 and the Golf, it seems act of a faff to have to extract the fob to unlock and lock the car when you have kids, bags etc. (I know, I know, first world problems etc etc 😊).
Haven't been in or driven the previous Q7 to compare but saw a couple in the car park and Mrs BB said how big they looked - especially in white, for some reason. Think this is down to the styling as the dimensions are only marginally different.
So, overall, we are very happy with it so far and would recommend to anyone that they consider one of these if looking for a car in this segment.
I will add further comments to this thread as they occur or happy to try to answer any queries.

Hi,
We ordered a Q7 S line in May having seen it at Southampton Audi.
Pretty identical to yours, including colour but we went for rear camera, rear blinds, black roof rails and flat bottomed wheel. I was unsure about the Alcantara/leather but having now seen one, it looks great. Ours arrived two weeks ago but with holidays etc, we are waiting until Sept 1st. Our current one has the air suspension but I didn't go for it this time so am hoping that the ride isn't too harsh. Enjoying reading about your new one in anticipation of ours in the meantime though! My mate has also got one coming Sept 1st as well. I understand from the dealer that lead times are now well into the New Year.

Hi westy
Sounds good (very similar to ours) which also has rear camera, extra rear airbags and the non-smoker pack.
The standard suspension is not harsh at all - very supple but roll is very well controlled. Don't know how they manage to do this on a tall, heavy car but, in my opinion, it is just about spot-on. Hope you and your mate are both pleased with yours.

That all sounds very positive. 40mpg sounds unreal!
Have you got the air suspension or the springs? (As an aside, I've noticed that the web configurator now lets you specify the air suspension independently of all other options now, which is good; initially it was only available as part of a very expensive pack where everything else was of little interest [to me anyway]).

Yep! Other than the couple of minor gripes I mentioned already, we are really pleased with it and the 40mpg ability (although our normal usage will probably not achieve that as there's an element of local journeys, school runs etc.
The suspension on ours is the bog standard springs. I haven't driven one with air suspension or even the SE version to make any comparison but, as I said, it is very good as is, IMO. I suppose if you're thinking of speccing air suspension, have a go in both versions and see what you think. To be honest though, I would be surprised if there were enough improvement to make the extra cost worthwhile possibly unless you really cover wildly varying terrain regularly.
Looking forward to hearing other owners' comments when they have taken delivery.

In a recent comparison test (Auto Express ,I think) between the S Line 270 Q7, new Volve XC90 and Disco, the Audi came out on top, overall with the Volvo a close second - think this may be at least in part because the Volvo only has a 2 litre engine. Can't think this would be enough to give decent performance and economy would suffer in normal driving conditions.
Anyone else taken delivery yet?

I've always found it astonishing that on a family car, they dont have full extent of safety airbags included as standard. Its the same with other manufacturers of 4x4 too, you have to add them as an optional extra. Surely safety of your kids shouldnt be a choice. I can understand it as an option on smaller coupe/saloons etc, where you might buy the car without the intention of ever ferrying rear passengers, but in this car there must surely be a negligible minority that wont carry rear passengers.Sounds good (very similar to ours) which also has rear camera, extra rear airbags and the non-smoker pack.
Test drove one this week. Very impressed with the drive....less so the looks.
The car looks good value at £53k for the S-Line ....BUT.....when you start to add on the desirable options, Air Suspensions, 4WS, Tech pack , leather seats, 21" wheels etc......the price rockets. I specced one to the same level as the demo we were given (which was perfect) - and it was nigh on £70k!!! ...and at that price its just too much....especially as that extra £17k will count for nought when it comes to trade-in time. (I've learned that lesson from the last Q7!) - At near £70k I would pay a bit extra and get a Full Size Range Rover I think.

Yes, all too easy to add some big £££s by ticking boxes on the options list. The problem is, if you start off with a FFRR and start speccing that up, you are into six figures very easily and the Q7 would be a lot less money for equivalent spec. I guess it would be a matter of personal taste as to whether the Rangie is actually worth the premium. (Can you get 7 seats in the RR now?)
As you can tell, we were very restrained on the options (especially as it's only on lease) and although it would have been nice to add some more stuff, in truth, the basic car is really very good - even the standard suspension is much better than good enough. I'd like to try the air suspension to compare and see if it would be worth the extra but we are very happy with it as is.
Being completely honest, Mrs BB drives the car 95% of the time and the virtual dash and matrix headlights etc would almost certainly be a bit superfluous for the everyday driving uses it is put to.
Has nobody else taken delivery of one yet? Any due imminently?

Precisely what I thought after my test drive this weekend. Overall I found the car quite forgettable though. My dealer wasn't too knowledgeable, and couldn't explain if there was traffic management displayed on the map; I.e. those red/green/amber lines either side of the road which identifies whether traffic is slow moving or not. All I could see was some very hard to spot grey lines on the side of some roads. It doesn't allow one to judge severity of traffic though. Any experience?
