Hi All
Does the spark plug cover need to be water tight when re fitting?

Apply RTV. Let it go off, then replace cover. From memory it will be loose in place with out the sealant and will rattle about unless you crank it down hard, risking it cracking.

As Matt advises.

I would chip in that one of the most common causes for "misfire at 2500/3000 rpm" is either failing coil pack or moisture on the plug covers/leads/in plug 'wells'

Pretty hard to get completely moisture proof as all 6 HT leads exit at back, but at least you've mitigated against direct water ingress from top.

Thanks again
The problem is that there is only two screws holding it down one at each end which makes the center part not sit flat, there is a seal around the cover but doesn't seal in the middle.

Does that include mild flat spot under hard acceleration from low revs as opposed to a misfire ? Mine's be doing a bit of that after recent heavy rain and washing.

Think mine has three cap head screws holding it down...

Mine is the upgrade fitted when rebuilt and has only the two allen screws, it was ok but once the heat gets to it you need that third screw in the center.

Powers Performance newly developed cam cover, no additional oil spray feeds required. Made from specially developed glass filled nylon. The cam cover has excellent acoustic properties due to an internal honeycomb lattice, and has the advantage of being 30% lighter than aluminium. It also incorporates several extra design features, including a spark plug sealing system which prevents the ingress of water, reducing misfires and rough running due to moisture. Each cam cover is bespoke, and painted to customer requirements. The spark plug cover is pure resin sealed carbon fibre, with custom graphics.

I got a feeling they dont sell them anymore

Speed3, When I experienced a misfire it was obvious that it was exactly that.
I 'phoned Jason and the advice was get everything (HT wise) as dry as possible - check the spark plug 'wells' too. If needs be, remove HT leads and put them in the airing cupboard for 12 hours!

Did all the above, but had to change HT leads first...then coil pack - this cured the misfire.

Your problem might be the throttle position sensors - ecu cant determine what's happening on an opening throttle until it reaches a certain point in the TPS movement? Could also be throttle bodies needing adjustment?
