On the 21st of May, forgot my card. I said I'd go back and pay later that day, however I completely forgot, I just got a letter yesterday, which was dated the 05/06/15, saying I need to pay at the garage within seven days, get a receipt and fill out a form.

It has Southwark Police Station and the address at the top left, but the logo is "Boss fighting forecourt crime"

I have every intention of paying, but I only just got the letter yesterday, which means seven days has gone already, what will happen?

The Chair?

I'd just go to the garage with the money, not going to refuse you for being a day or so late and I can't see the old bill making this a top priority. It's a genuine mistake, I wouldn't sweat about it.

Of course you did.

Which is why your first action on receiving the letter was to go straight back to the petrol station, apologise profusely, and pay there and then. Right?

You got the letter yesterday and you still haven't been back to the garage? Is it a long way from your house?

I'm going to pay, but I don't want to get stopped for flashing up on police computers and such or police turning up at my house and so on... do they tell the police I have paid or what? Just wondering

Kind of sums it up tbh.

If I had:

a) forgot to pay at the station
b) forgot to pay when I got home
c) forgot for the next three weeks

When I did remember I'd probably get a piece of paper, write on it "go and pay for the fuel I stole" and then sellotape it to my arm or forehead in case I jumped into the car to go and pay it but found myself driving in circles because I'd forgotten where I was going.

Go and pay it and then get booked in at the doctors for a memory test or something.

I would have returned and paid the same day, or sent a cheque if a distance away.

Forgetting for three weeks? Explain that to the judge.

Good point. I'd probably lay low for a few months, then go to pay wen the heats cooled off.

Petrol stations don't accept cheques anymore! biggrin

Surely the very next time the OP fuelled up, it would have jogged his memory about forgetting to pay?

Forgot? Can you afford to pay, is that the problem? Can you ask that you delay payment until pay day, or when your benefits come through?

Looks more likely you would have a debt collector knocking at the door than the police:

Pay it now or you could end up with a CFCJ. wink

FFS What a way to lead your life OP. If you owe someone you should have paid on the spot you make a special effort to get the money to them without delay.
So get it paid now if you have any decency and apologise profusely when doing so.

Oh and don't worry about the police, they don't give a stuff as your non payment is a civil matter.
