Will Lotus F1 survive?
Discussion
Whats happening at Lotus? Are the cars still impounded at Spa? There's very little information this site http://www.crash.net/f1/news/222304/1/lotus-urges-... and http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns31721.html suggest the cars were impounded but not that they have been released.
There was a tweet by markpalexander which asked why FOM would impound Lotus team trucks and cars.
So what is happening?

Why would Renault buy Lotus with all their apparent debts when other teams are available? Especially with the complication over Lotus's engine deal with Mercedes?
Do the Lotus debts help the current owner in that they can be offset against profits made elsewhere?
Because they would probably get it at a loss less than they would if the books were in a more healthy state. It's entirely possible (not knowing how much the debts are) that they could end up buying the team for £1.00 - but of course taking responsibility for paying the outstanding debts.Do the Lotus debts help the current owner in that they can be offset against profits made elsewhere?
They've owned the team before; twice (IIRC) so many of the people there will know the Renault way.
On your last question...quite possibly. This is what the Glazier lot have done with Manchester United. The difference there is that they have the cash-flow to cover the debt payments so from a business point of view, makes sense. That isn't the case at Lotus so I rather think the owners want rid ASAP.
Shame really. I went for a tour of the Factory in 2012. All very impressive, the week after one of their podiums finishes and the trophy (cant remember which race but could look at photos) in the cabinet in the reception.
Some of it underground in a Bond baddie sort of scenario. Noticed they did a hell of a lot of work for Boeing who were supplying them software etc for aerodynamic work. Was nice to see a load of Benneton cars in the meeting area. How times quickly change.

I was lucky enough to do the same one race day, and they had a car, jacks, airguns and wheels set up to try pitstops. It's bloody difficult with the car already stationary; can't imagine what it must be like with the car bearing down on you at speed with toasty warm brakes. The underground bit was a strange mixture of tellytubby-land on the outside and Bond-baddie lair on the inside! Some of it underground in a Bond baddie sort of scenario. Would be a shame to see the Lotus name disappear from F1 again, but if a Renault buyout secures the future of the team, then I'm in favour.
Renault buyout is imminent, according to Autosport.
"Renault is poised to return as a works team to Formula 1, with a deal to take a majority stake in Lotus due to be finalised next week, AUTOSPORT understands."

And, only in the crazy world of F1; Renault would continue to supply their current teams..... Whilst running a Merc engine in the back of their own car! Doubts that they'll actually run at Monza, as it is being reported the cars lack some critical parts which are being witheld by unpaid suppliers
