Hi R_U_Local,Reg,

I've been looking for your video posted a few years ago "11 more overtakes", (or titled something similar), if I remember correctly, but I can't seeem to locate it on YouTube. I would like to recommend it to an AD student as his overtaking is somewhat timid.

Is it still available?
Thanks

I haven't removed any videos - they're all still on Youtube, but looking quite dated now I'm afraid, and very poor quality.

First overtaking vid is here:

Second overtaking one is here:

I really must invest in a decent dashcam and start a proper Youtube channel.

So long as you can prevent the general riff raff of YouTube making silly comments on the videos that don't do one's blood pressure any good. There are always keyboard warriors who think they know better than everyone else about everything.

It'll be interesting to see how you deal with things like overtaking in your current car. There are overtakes in this video that you did with your M3 that I wouldn't do in my A3.

I've never been too bothered about the internet warriors. I find it's always best just to give people good, sound reasons for your opinions and actions and then leave it at that. My days of aguing a point for days on multiple pages are behind me.

I think if I do start posting videos again, they'll be shortish demonstrations of different individual aspects of driving - some will be aimed at people who are new to advanced driving principles and some will be aimed at those who are looking for a higher level of insight and skill.

As for driving a slower car, you're right - less performance does equal less overtaking opportunities, but the skill is in the placement of the vehicle to obtain the view, the anticipation of potential opportunities and taking those opportunities immediately when they present themselves. All these skills can be performed in any car, irresepective of its performance, as long as the performance of your car is taken into account as part of the planning process.

I actually miss far less overtakes than you might think in my puny 1 series!

I have a half-written piece stored on my laptop which I must finish and post sometime. It's titled "Driving a car fast V Driving a fast car". I'll try to find some time over the next couple of weeks...

Nice demo ... I enjoyed that

I fairly recently changed my car to a Cooper S - I've having much more fun on overtakes now as I have the power to safely complete ones I wouldn't even consider previously.
