We are aiming to take our motorhome to Iceland next year for a 2-3 week holiday so starting to do some research and figure out where to go, what to do etc.

Found this page which looks pretty awesome but unsure if it would be wise to do it in the motorhome?!

Some roads are long, bumpy, and grueling
yikes

If anyone here has done it either in a normal car, 4x4, motorhome, anything - please share your experiences, tips, advice etc. smile

Have you looked on Google Maps / Street view - it seems to have coverage for the main roads.

This company rents out motorhomes in Iceland, and has a little information - http://www.campericeland.is/information/how-to-dri...

Hadn't thought of street view - I'll take a look.

This thread looks great for tips (non motorhome related but leaving it here for later reading or anyone else who might be interested)

Plenty of Iceland is doable in a motorhome, and there are loads of campsites. The main ring road is an easy drive & you should be able to go right round the island in 3 weeks.

You won't be able to drive into much of the interior as non 4WD vehicles are not allowed on gravel roads

The Lonely Planet Iceland book was a great guide for our trip

We hired this

Which meant you could do this..

I'd love to do this. Agree the ring road should be fine. It's not normal Tarmac but it's close enough. If you want to get further into the interior you need a 4x4 though.
