Oil filter alternative
Discussion
Hi, I have bought and used both the Unipart GFE295 and Fram PH2821a filters in the past but now struggling to find a source, apart from one very expensive advert on eBay. I did use a Rimmer alternative but found that there was no non-return valve so I got cold knock on start up for 10-12 seconds. What alternative filters are you using that also have the non-return valve built in?
Hi mate..I bought a couple of FRAM filters but after hearing that some have exploded in use i decided not to use them...I managed to find the unipart GFE295 oil filter, They are out there but hard to find...I think there is a Motorcraft cross reference filter that is okay...Albeit never used it myself but my friend has on his 400SE....Ziga

Can't be sure about the valve, but I use Mahle OC132.
I use Mahle OC261 under £5 on the bay and no problems. It's a Rover V8 filter In fact I think it's better than most other alternatives. Sorry about the earlier confusion with OC 132.Tony. TCB.

Hi Keith I used a Halfords filter for 3.9 Discovery. It has a non-return valve and seems to be fine. The wedge and I are apart at the moment but I can check later what the number is. HOF249 rings a bell but does not come up on their search function, but then not many things I look for on their web site do. Terence

Thanks for the replies. Mahle OC132 now ordered - I'll see how it performs. Cheers.
Hi. Keith. There has been a mistake mate. I just checked my TVR 400SE and the one I'm using is Mahle OC 261 and not OC 132. It is a Rover V8 filter. You better check that order and make sure you get OC 261. Sorry about that, I wouldn't want you to fit the wrong one.Tony. TCB.

Thanks Tony. The supplier also stock the 261 for an extra £1 so I've emailed them asking if I can cancel the first order and pay the extra for the 261. Cheers. KeithTony. TCB.

Hi Keith,
The last filter I used was off fleabay with part number MA-P-OC132-A, and only cost £7 delivered to the door !(I think the seller was Doctor Car Parts or similar)
Cheers.
Thanks Roger. If I have issues with the Mahle one then I'll try your recommendation. I cant find either the Unipart GFE 295 or Fram filters at the moment and despite an oil change only 8 weeks ago I want to flush the engine as there's still obvious sludge in the pressure gauge area. I've got a new toy today - a proper oil pressure test kit with all the adapters - will give it a go Saturday to see what my real oil pressure is. You still ok for BBWF convoy across? Best if I meet you at Bromyard on way over? Also when do you want to set your new regulator up?The last filter I used was off fleabay with part number MA-P-OC132-A, and only cost £7 delivered to the door !(I think the seller was Doctor Car Parts or similar)

A further alternative for a few quid more:

I also found the following:
"The K & N oil filters have a stated efficiency of 99%, removing particles down to a size of 10 microns. According to the Australian Filter company Ryco, the normal level of filtration for most filters on the market is not less than 30 microns."
Make of that what you will.
