996 prices

So dear folks in the know with crystal balls

Any idea what's likely to happen to the price of my 2002 C2 996 with 18k miles in absolute mint condition?

Been offeered a very good shout from a dealer to buy it, but having been burned when I sold my 930 before the rise I am a little hesitant...

Just the regular 996 C2 in polar. Hmmmm..

Be interested to know what he's offered you. I'm no expert but I suppose it's worth about £16k, give or take. A dealer would have it up for a couple of K more possibly. But I think the values will be always capped by 997 values, and there's a shed load of those around, starting at £19k or so or maybe £25k for one like yours. And sadly - and I say this as a recent 996 owner - the 997 is infinitely more desirable and will never rise like 964 (which always looked great) or 993. So I'd take your money before 997 prices drop even more (which they will) and negatively affect your 996 price...

Billy IMHO it all depends on which 996. There were 8296 C2 Coupe's produced with Mechanical throttle (the 3.4 from '98), of those, say around 50% were auto, so a total of 4000ish isn't a particularly big number of the 175000 996's that were produced. I don't think the 997 will have any bearing on these particular 996's, just like the 993 doesn't really have any bearing on the 964.

ETA: to put in perspective what I mean above: there were around 65,000 964's from memory and about 2300 of those were 964RS's. So in absolute terms there are/were roughly twice the number of Non E-throttle 996 C2 manuals floating around.

I think my values may have been out by a couple of K (ie too high) but I still believe the principle to be right - ie values held or capped by 997 and always less desirable than a 997. Delighted to be proved wrong though!

I sold a 11k miles 930 cab for 29k a few years ago - so have been there and done that!!

So my '98 3.4 C2 manual with mechanical throttle is one of only 4000 cars produced?! I bought it because I viewed it as one of the last 'analogue' 911s, with no ESP, electronic throttle etc & it certainly feels far closer in spirit to my old 964 C2 than I expected & I absolutely love it!

I think that prices are rising for 996s, and long term, the outlook is very good, but it'll be a while before the rest of the Carrera's are worth anywhere near that.

For that money you could afford to sell it and buy a decent one that you wouldn't mind putting the miles on. You'd have plenty of petrol money left over too! If prices are rising you might even have another car to make some profit on in a few years.

I don't think 997 prices will govern 996 prices, the cars are after-all different enough. There are two reasons people believe a 997 is 'infinitely better' than a 996 - The headlights & the interior. Both are cosmetic and a matter of opinion. When the 997 was new and just released it made the 996 look old to some/most, now both are old and I actually believe the 996 is ageing better, especially the interior
