Mounting a TV on the wall.

I have just purchased a 55" LG TV that weighs approximately 18kg. The instructions state I must fix it to the wall via 4 self tapping screws in two studs 16" apart.

My walls are Gyproc, and I have a stud in the centre of where I wish to fix the TV. and the next stud is the standard 600mm away.

I am going to fix two screws into the centre stud, what fixings do people recommend using with Gyproc?

I thought I would ask as I don't fancy a hole in my wall and my new TV smashed on the floor.

This is what I've used with mine - http://www.rawlplug.co.uk/en/downloads/card/1951/ - screwed into the stud in the centre and then fixed either side mid stud with 4 of these.

Surface mount a sheet of 8mm mdf to the 3 studs then mount your TV bracket to that.

You could do what seems popular in the US atm and put in a floating wall, with space to put your cable behind and floating shelving unit under the TV for any box's, ive seen some really nice ones with LED string etc around or with completely hidden boxes mounted behind.

MDF seems overkill for a TV that weighs less than 20kg.

hit the stud in the middle, and decent fixings either side will be fine.

Better to have overkill than underkill, but yeah im known for over engineering stuff.

I recently put up a 42" - similar problem, studs not spaced or located correctly for hitting more than one where I wanted the telly. Read all the horror stories online which would have you believe that anything other than structural steel would be weak enough to have you TV come off the wall.

In the end, two massive coach screws into the stud and 4 plasterboard fixings was enough to hold my weight (72kg) - so I have no doubt a light telly (modern LCD - I'm sure my first mobile weighed more...) is no problem.
