Does anyone know if using the car's Media USB port to charge my TomTom gives it a sufficient level of charge as the traditional 12v (cigarette lighter) connection would?

I've tried it and it appears to charge fine but haven't tried it on longer journeys yet.

The USB port charges my mobile phone fine so assume so, it just gives no guidance in the TomTom handbook.

The reason I ask is I don't want to clutter up the space with a 12v multi socket as I am currently using the 12v supply for a dashcam.

The car is a 2014 Suzuki Swift Sport for reference.

Thanks

If the mains charger is rated at 5.0V 1.0A then it should be fine if it is 2.0A then it will probably just keep it going. A lot of phones nowadays need 2 amps so it might be that your USB port is OK too, you'd have to check.

In other words, it depends! Just see what happens would be my advice (preferably on a journey where your not going to be lost if the TomTom does curl up its toes just as you nearly there)

varies from car to car. The media USB in mine offers zero charge.
