Broadband speeds in NE Milton Keynes
Discussion
Hi all,
moving to Milton Keynes soon for a work placement, finally secured a flat with my mate but while looking at broadband today I've had a nasty surprise...Every broadband supplier is saying we will receive 1MB/s broadband! can anyone in the Great Linford area of MK attest to this appalling speed or are they underrating it, because thats simply diabolical!

There are some addresses in Linford Wood that can get more than that! A friend lives in that area and says "BT Infinity 2 at home gives us in the region of 38Mbps down, 11.5Mbps up". Some areas of MK were originally built with aluminium rather than copper wires from the BT cabinets and I believe this knobbles your chances of getting any decent speed.
If you have a postcode of the street you're interested in, bung it in here:

The postcode is MK145DA, Uswitch says the same as all the providers sadly!
Thats a good speed hes getting, were looking at getting BT infinity, but apparently its currently in "high demand"
very annoying, the only thing we didn't research was the internet because we thought "The modern city" would have widespread fibre!

I thought it depended greatly on your proximity to the local exchange?
I lived in two locations in the same town, the first being 2miles from the exchange where I got around 2mbps the second was about 300m away and I got about 12mbps.
I now live in a small village but I'm adjacent to the exchange and get 24mbps.
All of these speeds are with BT as my provider on normal broadband.

we're only a mile from an exchange, but the speed is crap as i believe that the lines take a very circuitous route around mk
Depends which area and which exchange the mk area is quite large and is covered by , bradwell abbey/ woburn sands/ shenley/ newport pagnall / wolverton/ bletchley exchanges ( i think that's all of them ) .Edited by bimsb6 on Wednesday 24th June 17:19

It does but only in the newer areas that have ducted network , a lot of mk is over 50 yrs old some way older than that . Fttp was trialled in mk and was the first area in the uk to have it available but only in certain areas . bimsb6 said:

I used to live on the same road as the exchange in Newport Pagnell and our speed was terrible!Edited by bimsb6 on Wednesday 24th June 17:19
Luck of the draw in MK, BT are upgrading slowly.
